Me and a buddy are thinking about riding through Yosemite. We are thinking of staying over night and check out other POIs in Yosemite (Mono Lake is def one of them).

when are you planning to go? what route?

No date/routes yet.

But I'd prefer to do it when the daylight is still long as I'd like to make it a single day event.

In, can we go during the week, preferably a monday?

I like your quick decission making. I don't think I can do it during the week as I've got zero vacation days left. I wonder if WFML (working from mono lake) will fly :)

Probably will be a Sat or Sun trip.

Only one day out to mono? The surrounding territory is *way* too pretty to blow through. Good camping and fishing on the June lake loop nearby. That's where Mama bear came through our campsite with cubs. Dog and wife freaked, I thought it was cool. But then again I was the only one with a little something... Check it out, it is "almost" God's Country.

Never knew that you could get vertigo on a motorcycle until I went over Sonora Pass.

I've done the trip via motorcycle many times. Although a day trip from the Bay Area is certainly possible, I'd stay overnight. Tons of camping in the area, or you could stay in a motel in Bridgeport or Lee Vining.

Great trip. If you're returning late afternoon, be prepared for the setting sun to be a problem. I'm cheap and put some painters tape on the visor plus the sunglasses. Tioga is great but speed enforcement and RV's are intense, esp weekends.

this is really the best option, unless you have an aversion to good people, good times, good riding, and general awesomeness. there isn't even a starbucks in hawt-horn-e so posing is at a minimum and usually confined to the pool area and you'll WANT to participate

Hawthorne looks a bit too wild for me.
If I have the time, I'd probably participate just for the heck of it.

Oh, BTW, I'm taking this into PM to attempt to coordinate a route/time/plan with the interested folks.

If you are interested in a quick Mono Lake trip, please PM me and I'll include you.

Also, I'll be on a big scooter :)

hawthorne is whatever you want it to be. lots of people ride for 8 hours+ every day and turn in early. it's like college

I hear you.. that peak is like 9600 feet. No way would I make mono lake a one day-er. Just too pretty... and too much "work" to do all that in one day.
