Any LEO's do the Carson City XMoto

Yup. I, along with seven others from my unit, went up there. We basically got our asses handed to us by a couple of guys from Oregon. Bill Balzer and Dan Cardinal are phenominal riders and deserved the win. My partner (5M6) and I eeked out a third place finish in the team event.

Silvr was a stud as usual and needed a trailer to bring his awards home. But enough about him,, lets talk more bout his GF:teeth .

It was a great time as usual. Carson City always puts on a great event.

If the swelling in my ankle goes down and I can put my boots on,, I'll be in Oakland next week for their event. Come on out, it's a great time....

cool to here! I forgot about the event and wanted to go. I live out here by Carson. Cullen is in the Sierra Sportbike Assoc. and asked for volunteers to help with the event. Unfortunately I did not set up. Too many conflicts this weekend with the club too. Coast ride, trackday, blah blah so not sure how many people he got to help out.

I'm afraid Oakland is a bit far for me to attend...but I really would like to get next years on my schedule and watch you guys compete!

Congrats to all you guys!

Thanks John:twofinger
I dunno...having that glitch at the orange barrier, then getting back on and finishing (well, one more cone died), knowing full-well how much grief you were going to be subjected to while finishing...good recovery.

As 5Mary4 stated, the Carson City Sheriff's Department knows how to put on a police motorcycle training and competition event. They have a great venue, put together excellent courses that are challenging and fun, and they have some of the greatest people working the event.

Two members of my unit and I went to the competition. There were 53 riders in all, divided into three classes, BMWs, Harley Electra Glides, and Harley Roadkings. There were four events that each rider could compete in. The main event was the timed course. The timed course was made up of five cone patterns that the rider had to negotiate through down and back meaning you went through each pattern twice getting a chance to run it both directions. Then there was the obstacle course which took the rider through a series of obstacles including a teeter-totter, bouncing up and down curbs, and working through some large street barricades. In the obstacle course you were DQ'ed if you so much as touched a cone or barricade. This simulates hitting a car, tree, or other object in the real world. Then there was a team run where two officers paired up to run the timed course and the obstacle course for an overall time. Both riders started at the starting gate, and somehwere during the two courses they had to leap frog and change places. Lastly there was a Last Man Standing event, where a coned off area was filled with barricades, and cones. Two riders went in at the same time and the object was to get the other rider to hit a cone, put a foot down, exit the area, or drop their bike. Losers were done, winners rotated out to take on other winners. The last three riders faced each other for a three man finale to determine first through third place. Then the top finishers from each class competed against each other for overall Last Man Standing.

It was a lot of fun. We got to practice the courses on Friday and the competiton took place all day Saturday.

One of my partners took first place in the main event timed course, and I took third (missing second by .02 seconds).

I took first place in the obstacle course.

My partner and I took frist place in the team event.

My partner took frist place in the Last Man Standing and I took second when we double teamed the third place rider from Elk Grove.

All of us were humbled by the Flying Beaver fromPortland Oregon. This dude was on a BMW 1200 and absolutley smoked the course. I wish I had gotten video of him as he rode with speed, grace, and agility through the course.

The obstacle course was my favorite. Here is a practice run with a better camera angle to see what it looked like.

That obstacle course looks cool! I wish they would do someting like that in Oakland.

Going up and down the curbs I noticed a 2x4 next to the curb. If that wasn't there will the front fender hit the curb on the way down? I always wondered that but didn't want to try it on my bike.

Can't wait to see you guys in Oakland.

I don't know.......it looked like someone moved the barrier in front of 5m4 at the last second:nerd

Always fun watching those comps. :thumbup

Just a few more..

Great :ride ing guys!

#42 (the bottom photo) is Sgt. Mike Cullen from Carson City Sheriff's Department. One fast mo-fo. He won the ElctraGlide class for the main event, the Electra Glide class for the Obstacle Course, and overall Last Man Standing.

...Going up and down the curbs I noticed a 2x4 next to the curb. If that wasn't there will the front fender hit the curb on the way down? ......

The wood was there because a lot of bikes were coming off the curbs sideways. Going straight off there is no issue of catching the fender. Coming off sideways can be a little exciting.

Well getting the motor boot off tonight was exciting !!! I think the swelling has gone down a bit though. All looks good for Oakland. Hey John :twofinger again. :teeth:teeth.

The obstacle course was a BLAST !! I think that the DQ for touching a cone in there was awsome. It made it so the rider had to be fast AND in control.

For those that did not read the articel attached in the first post,, there is a paragraph in there that sums this type of event up. TRAINING REDUCES ACCIDENTS !! Our unit is very heavy into these events and the training that prepares us for them. We have not had an Officer involved MC collision in YEARS. I will attribute this 100% to my Departments support of our training. Training is cheap compared to injury.

Four years ago one of our Officers was paralyzed, permanently, from the chest down due to an on duty MC collision. We have committed to NEVER have this happen again.

While in DC this year for the National Peace Officer Memorial, we spoke with an agency that told us they had 30 on duty MC collisions last year. They only had 60 or so motors IIRC. Completely unacceptable in my book.

Yes these events are fun. However, we never lose sight of the true nature of them. Will I ever need to ride on a teeter totter at work? No. However, by doing so in training, it increases my abilities and my confidence. As far as my "oops" going over the barricade,,, I pushed too hard and lost. I now have a better understanding of where the limit is. In a sterile/controlled environment where the danger is minimalized. Riding in front of a crowd of spectators and peers also adds a great deal of pressure while riding. Being able to cope with that pressure and still maintain focus on your objective is priceless. Every time I compete that pressure is there, my ability to cope with it gets stronger however.

So c'mon BARFERS,, we will be out in Oakland next weekend. It would be great to meet you and put a face with a screen name

Brian

PS:

The wood was there because the Harley's have low ground clearance and shitty shocks........... :)
