You survived and are now a more experienced rider.:thumbup

^^Yup!

My first experience riding in the rain with crazy wind was infinitely scarier than lanesplitting for the first time.

I have yet to experience this...and wont any time soon...my stupid leg is swollen like a balloon O_O

wind has always scared me the most..rain you can adjust and hopefully make it home safely. same with the wind for the most part, but it just seems to be less predictable. Bottom line....windy days 30-40mph....have scared the shit out of me

Things are only scary when they haven't been experienced enough....So get out there, and get into it :thumbup

one time passing a big rig on the freeway in the wind I felt my bike lift and set down to my left a few inches.

What rain? My morning paper said "Sunny" for today.

Glad I grabbed the Tourmaster in place of mesh this a.m. I thought it was just going to be misty up on the hill where I live. WRONG.

yeah wind is scarey. Going down to LA on 1 and a huge gust of wind from no where pushed the bike a good number of feet. took me by surprise.

can't imagine how it is in the rain.

i dont lane share in the rain much... slippery little bulbs and paint on the ground.

I rode home from Foster City at about 4:30 and it was mostly dry until I got closer to the city. In the city it was full on light raining. Despite being dressed incorrectly (Had my leather jacket and armored/kevlared jeans and non-waterproof boots), it was all good. Visibility was barely compromised, traffic was light due to Colombus day and I just took it easy.

I've ridden on the highway in horrible torrential thunderstorms and will never do that again.

This is just fall too. So just think about it this way.. You survived the preliminary period of storms. The best is yet to come...:D

I remember trying to get to Catalyst Reaction from SSF within a half our before closing during the biggest downpoor last year... It was horrible.

Even worse when I got there with 8 mins to spare and Dave wasn't there. I headed home and called when I got there and he picked up the phone and asked where I was at... I could have slapped myself silly during that storm.

I rode home today in the rain, more like mist on wet roads, and I have to say that the entire ride over 17, I was thinking..... was the air pressure in my tires correct?? :dunno

Something I should check more often.....

I would imagine a couple pounds less helping considering you would create more of a contact patch.. Then again, this is just merely an assumption on my part.

GaryJ has written threads (and a book) on this, but you should actually increase the PSI in rain because since it's cold and wet, your tires will not have enough friction to get up to temperature, and therefore will not maintain the same profile as if it was dry and you were riding.

Lowering PSI does increase contact patch, but ruins handling at a certain point because your turn-in becomes squishy, which is the last thing you need. I've always erred on the side of too high after learning this.

the ride home was not much better. LOL work in Milbrae and live in SF so the ride is not suppose to be that long. But once i got onthe 101 there was bumper to bumper traffic. So night time/traffic/rain = try not to lane split too much cause of the bot dot and the slippery painted line. so that mean i gotta sit in traffic with the rest of the cars. and hoping i dont get ass pack. LOL i feel like i'm the only motorcycle on the road. i was hoping to see another rider but nope. just me. haha Do you guys lane split at nite in the rain? i feel that is harder for the driver to see you in the rain so i try not to do it too much

Try riding home from pescadero creek on a bike with a headlight that isn't DOT through to highway 1 to 92 in pitch black while it's hailing :)

Scariest. Shit. I've. Ever. Experienced.

oOO. i know. I experienced that just past Tuesday around midnite. riding home on the freeway it was hailing the whole time. i gotta say that was my craziest ride of my whole 11 years of riding. people looking at me like i was crazy "12 midnite riding in the hail". i was scare as shit. glad to be alive once i got home. Mann

The light projection in front of me with that headlight was literally MAYBE 5 feet in front of me. IT SUCKED. I probably rode through Pesc. Creek at like 4.5 miles an hour.

GG bridge in the wind and rain is the worst.

Use to do sf- san refael 4 nights a week,i hated coming over the gg bridge in the rain.

But funny enough,i almost came off my bike twice tonight,

Once coming out of the petrol station on 19th ave, stupid painted road signs

back end just came away from me,lucky there was no cars coming, second time coming round fell st to lincoln, painted road signs, back end came out from me again.

fucking shinko tires, their good in dry weather fucking shite in the wet, when i get some extra cash, there coming off back to battlax tires.

I just put air in my tires before i left for my ride as well

i've had my mishap with rain and wind when i almost got into accident to it.
piece of advice, never go cycling when that wind and rain are together.
