BARF PitHo Rally 2013 (June 7 - 9) – Behind the Redwood Curtain!!!

Looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting new peeps. The weather has been fantastic and looking forward to some epic rides:ride

I still haven't decided if I'm doing this yet. I'd really really like to, but with how hot the weather has already been, I'm a little concerned about it getting hotter. Because of one of the medications I take, I do not tolerate heat well at all, so it's making me a tad nervous about committing to this.

However, if I do decide to go, I'll need a place to stay. Does anyone have an extra bed in a room they have already reserved that I could pay for? Or is everyone full and I'd need to get my own room at this point? Just trying to see what my options are if I do decide to get in on this like I'd like to.

(shit, it sucks not being "well" or "normal"...)

Average high for Fortuna in June is about 68. Suggest you keep an eye on the forecast and book a room; you can cancel later if you decide not to go, or if you can commit to sharing a room.

DaveT,

I too can't tolerate heat that well. I've always worn full leathers and just picked when I would rode (couldn't ride once temps hit 80 degrees). For the Fortuna trip I purchased a Rev'It textile suit the difference is amazing, now at 80 it feels cool, above 80 I just unzip the zippers and now I'm good till 88-90.

Part of the reason I did this log was to compensate for the heat as well: Beat the heat ride

Hope this helps,

Triple

New skins are better than a king size bed when it comes to comfort.

We saw some pooped out skins last time up north and it was lucky to have not cause havoc or a lay over.

Be prepared for the :ride so you can :teeth the whole time.

QFT. Start planning for new tires now. You'll be hating life if you don't. Trust me, I'm a cautionary tale on this topic. As in Ronin, "Anytime there's a question, there is no question." Get the tires.

On the heat question, one nice thing about the Fortuna destination, is that you can make a choice - for the most part - to stay relatively close to the coast on the way up and back, and keep to that marine air. Some exceptions apply, but the point is it ain't Hawthorne.

Last news, I'm finally booked for Saturday night. There was no effective way for me to get there earlier than than because I can't leave Chicago until after 3 PM Friday. See y'all at dinner. :party

It will be coolish along the coast, but any inland riding will range from the mid 60's to the high 80's.
I don't have heat issues because I wear leather.
Have you EVER seen a cow sweat? :laughing

Can I get a show of hands of who is trucking their dual sport or dirt bike up? I know a few peeps did it for Hawthorne..but haven't seen much talk of it for this rally..

may need to hitch a ride as van was smashed.

Oh good. I need someone to haul my change of (clean) clothes & other stuff for me. :p

Jeff, I can probably do that, but the logistics might be a bit tough. I am flying to Boston on the 4th, returning at around noon on the 7th, zipping home, grabbing my truck and picking up G on the way to the rally.

Jeff, you could always use the "Butch" approach, and just UPS your stuff to the motel. Seriously.

Ordered up some fresh tires this evening. :ride
