Hello,
I m planning a ride to Baja California (May 23rd to June 6th)

Since it is my first time all the way down south i would appreciate any suggestions from riders who have done this trip already.

If anyone is down to join this 2500 miles long trip - you are more than welcome. ( I will stay on the paved roads and will be cruising for the most part of the trip)

Thanks!

I've driven my cage

to La Paz and all over Baja, maybe 15X in the past 20 years. I was in La Paz this past January. The Baja Nomads and Adv Riders forums are great resources. If you have any specific questions, PM me.

Hey Pavel, I'm interested in joining, though I would need turn back earlier to be back on the 28th. I speak Spanish and love travelling to Mexico. Plus now I'm hooked on moto-touring after making a quick trip to OC last month :).

I know this sounds stupid, but with all of the turmoil with the cartels in Baja and Mexico going on, is it safe?

Baja for the most part is very safe. While there has been some violence associated with cartels in Baja, the majority occurs in mainland MX. You're more likely to get shaken down for a "speeding ticket" than to run into any cartel drug gangs.

I have traveled in and around B.C.S. pretty extensively and have had a wonderful experience all the times I have been.

Tell that to the La Paz American tourists that were beheaded couple months back...

LOL!

You mean the beheaded drug traffickers? The last thing the cartels want to do is mess with innocent US tourists and get the US govt. more involved.

OP, cross the border at Tecate and avoid the clusterfuck in Tijuana.

I have done quite a research. Baja is considered to be the safest state in Mexico.
Many tourists a visiting the peninsula all the time. It sounds like once you are south of Ensenada you should be safe.

no; I was referring to the 2 US tourists who arrived @ La Paz via cruise-ship, who went to a bar off the beaten path, who were kidnapped for $$$. When the kidnappers found out the family hand no money, they beheaded them.

Was a couple months back in the news...

And here in the Good Ole US of A

a madman walks into a school and kills 20 kids. I'm never going to visit the east coast. A madman walks into a theater in Colorado and kills 12 people and injures 58. I'm never going to visit the mid-west. A madman walks into a McDonalds in San Diego and kills 21 people. I'm never going to the west coast. Oy! Let's keep the reported violance in Mexico in perspective.

I think you are confused. This case is from La Paz, Bolivia

Wish I could go on the trip. Sounds fun.

You going to be running a SPOT or anything, so we can see your progress? Or call for police incase you make a wrong turn and end up in Bolivia?

:teeth
