BARF's #1 Road in California

What road do you nominate for #1 in California

Those that voted for Hwy 9 and instead of Hwy 36 (Red Bluff to Fortuna) definitely need to get out of the backyard. Hwy 36 is twenty times better than Hwy 9... literally, it's roughly twenty times longer, and has no traffic. That's right, 140 miles of beautiful curves that vary from one end to the other. I've been on a few other routes on this list but so far, Hwy 36 is bliss.

I think you need to check your math. It's 20 times longer, so it is already AT LEAST 20 times better. The fact that it has almost no traffic, and is more scenic push it closer to 35.86 times better, by my calculations. :laughing

Imma go ride Hwy 58 from near Paso Robles across to Bakersfield then up the 178 to Lake Isabella.
Pick up the 155, head west to the 245 then up to Miramonte on the Dunlap rd, to pick up the Elwood/Trimmer Springs/Maxon rds past Pine Flat Lake.
Then head north to Hayfork, hwy 36 etc.

Do it! Then report back! :ride

Let us know. Maybe someone can ride with you.

Where are you coming from?

Me?
Oh, sorry, Australia.
I know a few of the Barfer's already (Hiya Hank!) and have ridden with them on previous trips.

We will look forward to your trip report.

i missed the poll but does westguard pass not count because part of it is in nevada?
36 fifteen years ago was amazing - but they're steady destroying it and making it straight, taking out the jumps, fewer dirt sections etc. - and lots more fuzz up there now too.

from the list you have up there i'd vote for hwy 3 because it has everything and is deserted and holds the allure of adventure above all the others.

Taking BARF's advice this weekend. Lynn and Lygia and Marco and Bel have come all the way from Brazil to California to ride, so this weekend we're heading up north to ride at least part of 36. :ride Probably get some Lost Coast in there too, as well as Hwy 1 from Mendocino to Leggett. :party

Time frame for saturday? I am working hard around the house so I can play this weekend :teeth:ride:party

We are meeting up in Mendocino ~11 AM by the Mendocino Hotel. I'm guessing we'll hit Leggett around 12:30 - 1. From there we'll hit Avenue of the Giants, then out to Honeydew and Petrolia. :banana

I've got your cell number in my phone.

How about 11:30 at the Chevron in Fort Bragg?
That way I can get my beauty sleep :p
