Very kitschy cool. We used to camp in Painted Canyon (NE of Mecca) when I lived down south. Always loved the area.

Gorgeous pictures. Thoroughly enjoyed looking at them and reading about your adventure. Can't believe places like this exist!

I also just picked up a FJ09 a month ago! Fantastic bike.

+1! Never been to the Salton Sea but my uncle (living in Redlands) used to go fishing there often back in the 50s and 60s.

Sweet. When I turned 16 and got my driver's license my buddy and I were looking at a map of california and we saw this gigantic sea in the middle of the state. We decided to take my dad's truck and drive out there to see what it was. We grew up in OC so it was basically directly East of us. We were just kids, we had no idea what we were doing but we just followed the map and tried our darndest to hit 100mph in the desert. We got to the northern part, not even Salton City, got out of the truck and saw dead fish all over the shore and it smelled like hell, got back in the truck and drove back home. This was maybe around 1996. Later read they had some kind of mass fish die off. I think the lake was something like 30% larger back then too.

Always been fascinated by the area, there's a documentary and a lot of articles about the environmental issues with the lake and the impacts big ag has on it.

I think you can buy a parcel of land for like $100. I thought about getting one as a gag gift for my buddy for his 40th bday....

Thanks everyone, glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah land prices are crazy cheap out there. I wanted to get a shot of these billboards near Salton Sea proper but I was too lazy . They we're advertising residential lots w/electricity for $3300 cash, crazy.
