Moonrocks Fall 2018: Revenge of the Pancreas

I was hospitalized, preventing me from riding my own ride last year and now I'm back lean and mean.
Last year's ride thread

The consensus last year was Thanksgiving weekend, so again? November 24-25. The temperature will be cool but not freezing and there should be moisture in the ground.

google map

The plan is to ride single track and washes, including Dogskin mountain, Warm Springs mountain, and the canyons surrounding them. Forty miles of fuel range needed. Trail ready thumpers and smokers only, this isn't for adventure bikes or large dual sports. (You could ride your own ride exploring the surrounding roads.)

Skills needed: Be able to ride anything at Hollister and Metcalf, or intermediate trails at Stony and Cow. Climb and descend steep hills. If we have a bunch of highly skilled riders we'll do more technical stuff. If we have more intermediate riders we'll do less obstacles. The obstacles are mostly rock faces and loose rocks, with some sandy hills.

Glad you are healthy again; leading the ride last year was too much pressure.

I'll be slumming it in Kauai over Thanksgiving weekend this year, so I'm out.

If 2SYS runs into his own truck in the staging area, someone try to get it on video.

Last year was a ton of fun, but very few people showed up. Too bad 2sys was sick.

thedub, you did a great job leading. We had not been there so everything was new and fun. To me it looked like you knew your way around pretty well.

This is from last year. I had not posted it because I don't know how to get rid of the blurriness that comes up every few seconds and it annoys me.

No wait, I know somebody on ThumperTalk had the same exact problem and worked around it.

Agreed!

Looks like I need to get a bigger tank for this ride, but I was planning on getting one anyway for the Virginia City Grand Prix. Is there a cutoff date or do we just show up ready to ride?

Planning on loops of 40 miles or less for stock tanks, which is a long day on gnarly singletrack for an old guy. It's pretty easy to bail to the staging area and us peeps with big tanks can spare fuel if it comes to that.

Meetup details will be firmed up later. I was just suggesting a date; I'm happy to change it to accommodate thedub or anybody else who can't make Thanksgiving weekend. It has to be after mid-November to get some moisture in the ground and the temperature to cool. After December the chance of snow goes way up.

I'd like to go, but it may be difficult with Moab and Baja happening. Subscribed.

Shit, it's August, there are a bunch of things happening in September, but October November? What are the hopeful dates? not that I can go. I like to dream.

BARFers in Moab were asking me about Moonrocks and I was drumming up support. (Anybody who rode Moab can ride Moonrocks easily.)

Temperatures are falling here, we just need some rain. Expect freezing mornings and brisk riding temps, but you'll still work up a sweat.
