Talking I'll be talking lane splitting / sharing the road on TV this weekend

I'm representing LaneSplittingIsLegal.com on ABC 7's "Beyond the Headlines" this Sunday at 10 AM, talking about lane splitting, sharing the road, moto safety, etc. The CHP, Walk SF and the SF Bike Coalition will also be on the show. Tune in and check it out!

Edited to add the video right up front:

+1. TV needs to think we have many leather bound books and apartments smelling of rich mohagany.

Congrats man. If only I had a TV.

Very well - Cheryl was very interested and led the conversation in good directions. I was very pleased with it, overall.

I already taped it last month, and anyway, sorry - no-can-do-ski. One, that shirt has the sticker design on it, and two, while I get that some people don't listen to tattooed people, eh... whatever. I put in the work on and the funds behind the site, on my own terms.

I don't know about y'all, but I meet a lot of riders who aren't wearing khakis and button downs. Motorcyclists are a diverse bunch. I'll keep my rant about encountering this kind of mindset on a site about motorcycles to myself and leave my response at that.

I can get channel 7 over the air, even from Fairfield. No cable required.

Scheduled to record.

You may be overlooking a subtlety. We get and love you, but it's vociferous, voting blue-hairs who may not look passed the tatts. And you represent us.

I'm sure you charmed them when you started speaking: "That tattooed monkey sure is articulate."

Not trying to beat a small point. Appreciate all your hard work.

I totally get it, and I tried really hard not to be too defensive and butt-hurt.

I can't deny that I represent motorcyclists with my efforts. I prefer to think that the site and the project represents motorcyclists, and I'm just behind that, but I know it's not that simple. ABC7 found me because of the work I'm doing.

But I meet with execs all day long (mostly from big software companies) and they listen, and sign on the (often quite exorbitant) dotted line quite regularly. I speak at conferences now and then as well. I like to wear short sleeves and I'm used to being taken seriously in spite of looking like one of the uglier extras from SOA. Rick Eckhardt, who probably looks even more like a "biker" than me, spoke in the hearings on AB236 in NV. That bill is doing just fine. Here's his testimony, with video, if you're interested.

I doubt anyone will find me to be a silver-tongued devil on TV, and while I'm very passionate about motorbikes and lane splitting, there are certainly better mouthpieces. There are many people, Budman and others, doing tons of amazing stuff behind the scenes and I'd love for them to get interviewed instead of me so I could get in some riding between working on the site and "real work." Those folks are the ones that deserve the credit and attention anyway. One million thumbs up to them.

Fuck, it's the bay area. People are pretty fucking accepting of tattoos around here. Most people don't even bat an eye over it.

And I am not worried about cagers liking lane splitting, I just want them to know it's legal to do so and all that jazz. I'm also hoping nothing ever comes to a vote in CA about lane splitting. Let it remain as it does now, nice and easy that way.

I'll set the DVR for Sunday.

I'm counting on awareness creating a bit of acceptance, so a few more folks check before changing lanes, etc.

Won't get to see it here, but I DO wish someone would point out the LOGICAL fallicy of people getting angry about motorcycles PASSING them:

That, Unless you are going to the exact same place and taking their parking spot, you don't have ANY negative impact on their hateful commute.

It's not a zero-sum game out there folks, just because cyclists are winning doesn't mean anyone else is losing anything.

That, and if it's SO maddening, they can always join us - " You have nothing to lose but your cage."
