Alta Redshift MX Second Impressions

This would be the second brand new motorcycle I have gotten in my life. This one is the best.

I got my my Redshift on Tuesday October 25, 2016 as a 2017 Model. It had 0.9 miles indicated on the dash display. I only rode it in the showroom in the San Francisco BMW Alta Dealership as I had some mods to make.

On Thursday the 27th I replaced the stock 19inch MX rear wheel with a higher profile 18 inch.

I took it for a ride on Friday in the mud until the rain started coming down. I used about 25% of the battery in 30 minutes of riding, 6.4 miles now indicated on the dash. Hugh effort was required to move through the east San Jose adobe mud, yet the bike would go wherever I pointed it with nary a dab. It was silly how easy it was to make it go where I wanted without a bobble.

Wednesday November 1, I took the bike, now dubbed “Shiftless”, out for three sessions in “Hero Dirt” on the same track, minimum 2 1/2 hours, 25.3 miles indicated traveled. Obviously i am just putting around my track. It is all turns with significant up and downhill grades. About 25% indicated charge remains. I was pretty tired at this point. Hero Dirt, point it and go anywhere, crazy drops, and ledges, it just tractors thru.

I love this bike. It is really easy to ride. It feels quite light due to the weight distribution. This is cheating. The throttle control makes it easier to ride than a bicycle or a motorcycle. Only it is an electric motorcycle which makes it easier than either.

Tomorrow I hope to ride it to deadness. Battery full depletion. Schedule dependent. Report to follow. Maybe pics.

Hi Butch, this is Jeremy from Alta Motors. I'm stoked your loving the bike and can't wait to hear your feedback after a few months of hardcore use.

RE: battery pack water crossings - the battery is IP67 rated meaning it can be fully submerged underwater without any issues. So if you drop it in the drink you've got plenty of time to pull that bad boy out.

Schedule changes... Hollister on Sunday and ride it to deadness. I'm just riding around in my neighborhood fields for now, though the hero dirt is drying out pretty quickly.

I continue to be amazed how easy it is to pull out of tight spots where on other bikes i would prolly fall down. This is a cheater bike. I need all the help I can get, too.

Hey Jeremy,

You say the battery pack is IP67 rated and can be fully submerged without worry. How about the rest of the electronics like the motor, ESC and charge ports etc?

Hi Tom, the whole bike is IP67. No more hydrolock. We keep talking about doing some video of riding the thing into and out of a swimming pool, but haven't gotten around to it yet...
