Actually, at this level of destruction, and not any more, riding will be really interesting. Assuming shit is open. Burn areas are really wierd.
We shall see.

This hour-old map shows it to the edge of Letts Lake, so all the trails (04, 05, 06, 08, 12) south/south-west of it are toast. It looks like they used trail 02 (17N93) as a fire break. Steam Donkey and all that good stuff off Potato Hill are safe at the moment, but it's so close.

The GF and I are crushed that all the trails west of Stonyford around Penny Pines campground are all burned up. We just discovered those great single tracks last year for our dry camping weekends with not a soul around.
If only we hadn't diverted all the rivers to the Pacific Ocean these fires would never have started.............
Good active map here:

That is an awesome map and link.
Fires are natural, and wiping out bits of humans is natural.
Harsh, I know.
I hope trails are still ipen. Riding is fire ravaged areas can be cool.

Looks like the fires broke the line today and now again headed to Stoneyford. Still well south, but on the move North again.... Hopefully come sun up the tankers can knock it back at bay.

I was at the Upper Lake Ranger Station. They saved a lot of Penny Pines. Not sure if they'll be ready by mid-September or not but perhaps this can be an amazing volunteer opportunity

That map seems to show the fire finishing the rest of what did not burn in the previous fire.

I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah it looks like it's into the Snow Mountain wilderness. Once in there they won't get any access, will probably burn until the rains...It just keeps on going north, crazy amount of fuel to burn with no ability to stop it. Pretty sad situation.

The Forest is currently under closure orders.

I'll make a decision on Sept 4 of a postponement.

a couple years i think. maybe if we can form some organizied volunteer work to get it back open it would help. tree planting, trail maintenance, clean up, that kinda stuff. i sure would hate to see it closed for years to come. on a positive note this leaves the door open for us to discover a new area to camp.

I've been talking to the rangers and maintainence folks at the Upper Lake District. All trails in the Upper Lake region are closed indefinately

I'm hoping they will allow volunteer crews in before the rains but it doesn't look good.
