There is a 2005 YZ250 in the BARF classified for 2800.00. Not mine, but that seems like a good deal to me.

If you're mechanically inclined (sounds like you are) I wouldn't shy away from the older 250f's. They're awesome trail bikes and easy to ride. I had an 07 crf250 up till this year and loved it... I recently got an 18 ktm350xcf and love it too ...but it's really not THAT much better than my 07. I sold my crf to a buddy who rode older 250 2 strokes...he says the crf is the funnest bike he's ever had cause it's so easy to ride.

Well I ended up buying a 2002 KX 250 for $2500. Just want to add some bar risers, hand guards, and A heavier flywheel (or weights)

Awesome bike! Green sticker 2 stroke, great find!

I had one (2000 I believe?) and I didn't really feel the need for the heavier flywheel ... bike was very grunty, crawled over stuff, didn't stall, etc.

I did get an IMS tank and I did get the suspension revalved.

Have fun with it!

I've pretty much always ridden CR250s converted into enduro bikes. That said, if money wasn't an object, I'd own a new KTM 300EXC for my enduro bike. Like most folks, money is part of the deal and I don't ride as much as I used to, so I still have my last CR250 (2001) race bike as my trail bike. Bought it new, full enduro conversion and maintained it well so it's still pretty nice. As much as I love the new KTMs, at 60 YO, my 250 isn't the limiting factor to my speed/endurance or lack there of. I still love 2 strokes and the fact it has a green sticker, so I plan to keep my 250 around. That said, I'm wanting to try out dual sport riding so I picked up a DRZ. Way different bike but I'll probably get used to it....
