KeyMan's End of Summer HWY 1 Saturday EVE ride 9/1

Place: 1140 University Avenue Berkeley CA 94702
Meet: 4 PM
KSU: 4:30 PM

Secondary meet for those in SF, Marin, etc.

Tam Junction

I will likely stop at the Good Earth parking lot and chill for about fifteen minutes. There is a gas station on the corner for those who need fuel.

TAM JUNCTION ETA, let's say about 5 PM so KSU is likely to be 5:15ish.

Please be on time, or early, if you are meeting me at TAM Junction.

I will be making this ride regardless of how many people join me. On Saturday August 11th I rode up 1 at about this same time. There was one cage that I easily passed. That is why I am planning this ride for Saturday evening. Besides, it fits my schedule.

This will be a moderate pace ride so "newbies" are welcome. Please have at least six months to a year under your belt on your current ride. If you just got a new ride, please have at least a year or two of riding experience. it is also advisable that you have taken at least on safety course.

I ride vanishing point with a pace that rarely exceeds my ability to brake before hitting anything that suddenly appears, such as a dear or fallen rock. If you prefer a faster ride, feel free to ride ahead. There are very few places to get lost on this road. I will stop at intersections to make sure any slower riders know where to go.

ATTGAT! I don't play. If you have tennis shoes, jeans, or any other non suitable attire, I will kindly ask you not to ride with me and, to consider investing in some riding gear. I don't care how much I sweat, I wear gear and so should you.

I will very likely have dinner in one of the restaurants in Bolinas, Olema, or Point Reyes. Depending on who joins me and how we feel, the place I am likely to eat will be one of the following.

Coast Cafe or Eleven in Bolinas
Farm House or maybe Sir and Star in Olema
Cafe Reyes, Station House Cafe, or Marin Sun Farms in Point Reyes (Station)

HWY 1 has been closed for a very long time. It was recently opened back up. Nearly all of the road is fresh pavement. There is one small section that is still a single lane with a traffic light. I will either split to the front or wait for a full cycle of this light, if anyone falls behind. Again, there was only one car going North on my last Saturday evening ride.

I have been riding and driving this section of HWY ONE for about forty some odd years. It is one of my most favorite sections of road and I am very happy to have found a time frame that both fits my schedule and avoids all of the traffic that is nearly always going to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes.

It should be noted that while I do ride a moderate pace on twisties, I waste no time when slabbing it. Ride your ride and keep it safe and sane. I will wait for anyone and everyone at TAM Junction.

I hope to see some other riders but, I will ride it alone, just as I did on August 11th. It was a really nice ride and I had a delicious burger at the Coast Cafe.

I will likely do this again, soon. I really enjoyed it, the other night. It was perfect weather, perfect riding conditions, no traffic, and the delicious burger at the end of my ride was totally worth it.

Have fun...

It's your skin to lose. I just don't want to enable any squids...

I have 20+ years of experience, god knows how many miles? Including 3 months with just me a bike and tent and road to main and back. But unfortunately no safety course. Oh well maybe another time

LOL

Obviously, the point was to eliminate squids and others who simply are not ready for prime time.

As I originally posted, this ride happens even if I am riding solo. I would have done that, regardless. I simply extended an invitation just for the fun of it.

The only decisions that remain are DUC or BIMMER and where to have dinner...

No worries, Bud. This ain't my first rodeo.

I had a blast. I was on time to my secondary meet location. For me, this turned out to be an excellent trial run to see how the timing would flesh out.

I plan to post this same ride up, again, real soon.

OK, I am doing it again in two weeks. Saturday September 22nd. Tell your friends, come alone, or live vicariously. I live to ride and I ride to live.
