Dirtbag Casino Run, Hawthorne Tank Bag Challenge Saturday October 13

Do you miss Hawthorne already? Lets go back! Just for one day and do it minimalist style!!

..because you don't need all that shit! You don't even need an extra day off work

Seriously, we used to ride all day and end up in Hawthorne then ride back the next day with the route determined by the severity of the collective hangover.

So as a throwback to the true meaning of Hawthorne I'm doing an overnighter and I'm not taking anything that wont fit in one tank bag. Have you seen my tank bag? It's fuggin Tiny!

What about hygiene...?

Clean underwear, wrapped around my tooth brush takes up very little space in my tankbag. Done!

What about tools and shit..?

A tire plug kit fits under the seat. I'm riding a modern fuel injected bike, not a '78 Honda CB750. If my bike stops operating and it can't be fixed with another push of the starter button, it is beyond my ability to fix. There is no cigarette-butt-wrapped-in-the-carton-foil fuse replacement on my bike. My credit card takes up very little space in the tank bag. Tow trucks exist for this very reason.

What about a change of street clothes..?

They say motorcycle boots are not good for walking, but I don't plan to walk farther than from the hotel to the bar. Besides, anything that will keep my skin on my bones if I'm sliding down the pavement will certainly keep my nipples covered. Wear your riding gear whilst socializing with other people dressed like Power Rangers (textiles) and X-Men (black leather). You'll be surprised how many locals will initiate a convo with an opening line like "Where'd you guys ride in from?". And whether you pull your wallet from the back pocket of your skinny jeans or from the side pocket of bug covered riding jacket, the money inside it still spends the same.

But...my camera, laptop, video equipment, tablet and shit won't fit in my tankbag...?

All that shit fits inside your phone

Besides, forget about pictures. Be present to experience the moment!! There will be no photo dump thread on this one. Take a pic of the Starbucks parking lot to document who went. Plenty of selfies while we're drinking will surface on social media, but the views, and routes, and experiences, and hardships will have to exist in the stories we tell to those that weren't there.

"...but wherever shall I go , Rhett? Whatever shall I do??!?!" ...but.... lodging?

Believe it or not there are more lodging options in Hawthorne besides the El Cap/Travelodge. Even though its right after a holiday weekend I doubt the whole town will be sold out. An if it is...F@*k !+. We'll press on to Walker, or back to Bridgeport. The spirit of this ride is lets ride motorcycles, with eachother IRL. There is little forwarning going into this one. We're going to hit the road, solve problems and have a good time.

The Meet up spot will be Starbucks at 842 Willow Ave in Hercules. KSU 0800. The route will be incredibly weather dependent. Stay Tuned. If there is an overwhelming amount of south bay interest the meet up may change or another may get added.

TL; DR

Let's go back to Hawthorne. Leave Saturday. Come back Sunday. Take the absolute least amount of crap with you.

Man, this sounds like my kind of ride. I wish I could make this, but I’ll be off working in a distant place.

We who can’t attend will definitely want a ride report!

Damn I won't be back in time for this. We would be able to play who has a more annoying headlight at night too.

Does carrying extra fuel count as over packing?

Do I take the bike with mud and snow tires, or dual compound?

How much off road on street tires do you anticipate?
