Well, maybe twenty bucks since I'm a luddite and don't know for sure.

Also, 28mph is not 'ripping past".
Would that 28mph estimate stand up in court. You suspect the waymo car records the speed of cars in its vicinity? Such radar is only accurate if tracking a vehicle moving directly along the path of the radar, towards or away from. Less accurate if off to the side, accelerating, travelling along a different vector...

Ya think?

As I posted previously, the crash narrative being discussed is from the DMV report filed by Waymo, not from Mountain View PD.

Yeah, they're probably not smart enough to figure out cosine error.

I do not know how it would hold up in court, nor did I make my statement with the intent that it would be used as evidence in a trial.
Yes, I suspect the Waymo vehicles tracks the speed of vehicles in its vicinity so that it knows whether or not it needs to brake, accelerate, or steer to avoid anything. Seems obvious to me that it'd be a requirement for a self-driving vehicle? How the hell would it operate in traffic without speed sensors?
But I'm sure you're right about the radar's limitations, and that none of the development team thought about the fact that vehicles would be next to it or slightly off to the side from their autonomous car. They probably went with the idea that each and every vehicle on the road would be directly in line with them.

Im sure thats what they did

Actually I realized while in the shower that my own car does all of this. It steers itself in its own lane and slows down or speeds up with the traffic in front.
I shouldn't post until I've had my morning shower

In my experience both of those options go hand in hand.

I don't know, do you think passing in the far right lane at a 33% greater speed differential is safe when there is an obstacle up ahead causing traffic to move to the right?
Cause I sure don't.

I do think using differential as a basis to your argument is wrong, as others have stated. When splitting traffic at a stand still, every mile is 100% faster than traffic... sounds very dangerous on paper, but not in application.

I do not think passing at 7mph faster than traffic to your left, to be an issue.
