2018 MotoAmerica Offseason BSing thread

The MA team is already publishing a tentative 2018 schedule in mid-September. Between the schedule announcement and issuing the new rules package before the end of the season, they seem to have their act together.

Word is Elias is staying at Yosh. Not sure how many riders will really move seats but there will likely be more Superbike teams next year and some existing teams may expand to into other classes.

Tentative 2018 MotoAmerica Schedule

April 13-15: Road Atlanta, Braselton, Georgia

April 20-22: Circuit of The Americas, Austin, Texas

May 4-6: VIRginia International Raceway, Alton, Virginia

June 1-3: Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin

TBA – Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, California

July 20-22: Utah Motorsports Campus, Tooele, Utah

August 9-12: Sonoma Raceway, Sonoma, California

August 24-26: Pittsburgh International Race Complex, Wampum, Pennsylvania

September 7-9: New Jersey Raceway Park, Millville, New Jersey

September 21-23: Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham, Alabama

Not getting more factories. Needs fewer factories

Toni is staying, he told me "I think so" in a "it's true but I can't commit" sort of way. He also gave a great speech about how he thinks MA can have 10 guys fighting for wins in SBK soon.

Rumors:
Hayes is getting a testing contract
Gerloff is trying to go to Europe, possible Moto2
Herrin is front runner for Hayes seat
Beach is staying for the new Supersport
Aguilar and Gilbert are front runners for Beach's teammate

Hayes should go. If only to bring up more talent.
Gerloff should give it a shot witht he right team.
Herring isn;t a bad choice but I'm surprised Gerloff isn;t.
Weird for Beach but at the same time if he talks anymore no one will sponsor that team.
IDK enough about Agi or gilbert to speak to one over the other.

Hayes retired, at least from that Yamaha seat, which Gerloff is going to be sitting in next year. I think he's gonna be fast pretty quickly as well. But we shall see. Happy for him, good guy.

Any chance they'll get on TV with MAV TV or another channel besides BeIn?

Saw the races at Sears Point; great access, good competition. On-site broadcast was sort of amateur but informative during the races (good camera positions!). Seemed to be a lot of riders there but the cage parking lots were thin. Could promote more, say at the NASCAR race or buy ad-time on local TV.

Even though they're not "known" names, sell the racers AND the races. Every other sport, even within Motorsport, promotes via the participants as much as the events themselves.

Just my .02....

Is Toni's speech recorded anywhere either in video or transcript? Thanks, Rob.

MA is generally happy w/ BeIn. they are looking to improve the broadcast. i walked by Wayne and the rest of KRAVE talking to some ppl in a hotel and thats what they were talking about.

i think MA knows that they are sucking at promoting the riders. ive talked to some race dads that have been unable to secure sponsorship because theres no content on the MA website about their racers. its kinda sad actually. hopefully they are already planning on fixing this.

i have an idea to better help racers promote themselves and ill probably be talking to MA about it. i write web and iOS software, so ill probably be doing the work too. hopefully they can afford me.

I think BEIN does a pretty good job myself.

The announcers are fine and production is OK.

G. going to Europe is a surprise, but very cool. Go get 'em!

the only major issue i have had w/ BeIn was at Road America when they showed the crew for more than half the race because they had technical problems. unacceptable. they didnt even bother showing the whole field as they passed the working camera(s). theyd show Gerloff/Beach, then go to crew.

im stoked that all the races are now on YT the Friday after the races. im not stoked that MotoAmerica doesnt advertise this fact at all. theyve got highlight vids on their FB and website, but no links to full races.

Crossposting. Sue me.

American Flat Track is hinting on their social media accounts that MotoAmerica Superbike Champ Toni Elias will race in the Twins class at the October 7th season finale on the half mile in Perris, CA.

Elias has done well at MM's Superprestigio and I saw him race at the U.S. Superprestigio in Las Vegas two years ago. He's good on a short track and he will probably do well on a half mile. I know the mechanic that worked with him in Las Vegas was impressed.
