first non-commute ride in a while with a friend yesterday. she had a dinner date but wanted to get a ride in so we just went from the mission across the city down to the pacifica taco bell and back.

she has an sv650 and has been riding for much longer but she's been a very good ride buddy in terms of waiting for me to get comfortable with being back on a bike.

first time i've really gotten to ride it with the weight reduced (my commute is a straight shot down folsom). it doesn't feel like a flyweight like my old Derbi GPRs were, but it moves with me now, and i'm starting to feel comfortable with moving my body's weight around to carry a little more speed in turns.

have a good day, barfers.

Hope the bottom pic was taken before the ride. Otherwise you wasted a trip to Taco Bell... cause you've got enough chicken strips to satiate the hunger of both of you, and your extended families.

we all make a choice every time we ride.

i'm expanding my skill set while still being aware that i would rather not spend the afternoon in an ER bed googling how to find new fairings.

that's my choice. ride your own ride

You may want to glance at a menu before you talk shit.

Has your ride partner said anything about the lack of rear view on your bike and how that compounds your chances of taking a trip to the ER?

Always good to ride within your limits and stay out of the ER! But in all seriousness, not being able to access more of the edge of your tire indicates that you are not comfortable leaning the bike in turns. That inability/fear/reluctance will land you in trouble quicker than anything if you misjudge a corner and are not able to add some counter steering to get the bike leaned over. Good for you for having fun on your bike and getting out there! Your bike is looking cool, I dig it. But maybe consider taking a class on motorcycle technique with some riding where an instructor can help you? We want to see your bike looking cool, not wadded up. Have fun!

How does this not violate TOS4.1?

Low class comments aren't always a T.O.S violation.

i've never been able to trust mirrors on my bikes. they're always too small and vibrate too much. i throw half-second glances over my shoulder when i want to know what's behind me. you're directing your attention away from whatever's in front of you either way.

ride partner is critical of my lower body protection consisting of tactical kneepads and steel-toed police-issue boots. i do wear them every time.

yeah that joke is showing cords.

my Derbis were basically 200-lb two-stroke dirtbikes with fairings and bigger brakes. i'm learning how to ride the big-boy bikes after a few years away. give me some time here, we all started somewhere.

and somehow i'm getting shit for being a squid and a chicken at the same time?

Jason... yeah ride your own ride.

Staying in your comfort zone is important. An intermediate CMSP class would probably help expand that zone.

Ride on man.

i'm getting there, man; this bike started out weighing almost twice what my last one did and adjusting to that has been a process.

i needed to take some weight out of it before it moved with me the way i expected it to from my previous riding experience.

that's my 2nd bike in the middle. give me time and i'll have a wear pattern like that again; but i've been away for a few years and i'm on a very different bike now.

That derby looks like a sweet bike! Glad you are getting the Ninja set up the way you like it. Also glad the feel for the bike is coming around! Just want to see you have fun and be safe. I know you will get there and it seems like you have good people around you. Let some of those good people give you good pointers and get counter steering figured out. Have fun! Good to see you riding and getting into it.
