Glad you appear to be ok AJ. That was a big hit you took. We can all Monday morning quarterback this incident, but I didn't see it coming. He came out of nowhere.

I often like to have cars in front of me in town. Often I think they will block the laser and get the ticket. In this case one may have taken the hit for you. I hope your leg is ok!

I watched that through as if I were riding. I would have been smashed, too. surprised the eff outa me and I knew it was coming

lesson I would take from this is to increase my risk estimation for this type of event happening, especially in the city where it's relatively common occurrence.

put it right up there with the other risks you were analyzing about driveways/cross streets and realize that people use wide lanes and stopped traffic as personal turn-around spots. this is especially true in the city where the alternative could mean three right turns and an extra 6-8 city blocks and 3 or more lights to wait through

Hope the other driver was cool with you and really glad you're in one piece. my crotch hurts just hearing that crunch

That was my biggest take away - that those stopped cars provide an opportunity for people to do dumber things than normal, so presented with this situation again, I'd reduce speed even more and realize those stopped cars are seen as opportunities by other drivers to make illegal moves.
