This is a serious question and NOT intended to stir up controversy.

Where are the AMA's priorities?

I will admit to having never joined the AMA. It seems to me that the AMA's top priority has been preventing / repealing helmet laws. This may be completely wrong, but that's been my perception (we all know perception and reality can be far apart).

I'd really like to see the AMA do some serious research around the concept of lane sharing / filtering. If the results warrant it, I'd like to see the AMA advocate for lane sharing / filtering as a national standard.

I'd like to see the AMA really push for DRIVER education.

I'd like to see the AMA REALLY push for rider education.

Honestly, I'd like to see the AMA push for tighter enforcement of licensing laws (despite pressure from the manufacturers).

Thoughts?

I wonder how much money I would have saved by just going lifer. I know I must be late a lot with payments, because my card says I am only a member since 06. I think that is when I started the Hall of Fame extra support, but then again ......

Oh, my card says "Hall of Fame" on it. Yeah, baby!

AMA fan. Their free tows saved me multiple times when I had my first bike which was unreliable.

Haven't needed them since upgrading to the FZ6 but support them

The free magazine they send details ALL of the things they fight against/for and also keep you informed on just about every law, policy etc related to motorcycle through the entire country.

They were huge in repealing the lead law for child dirtbikes as one recent example.

I agree about sharing/filtering, but you'd be surprised at how many riders elsewhere in the country think it is a terrible practice. I really do wish they would do more research though.

They urge people to wear helmets by the way, I think that perception is because they honestly fight against anything that is an additional law placed on motorcyclists. The helmet thing just happens to be an easy target because it sounds so stupid to say they fight it.
