Will Lorenzo fare better on the Duc than Rossi?

Let's kick off the season with a nice, mellow conversation ().

according to Wiki, Rossi had zero wins and 3 podiums with the duc in two years.

will Lorenzo surpass that in his first two?

Yes, cuz of everything Eyebrows has accomplished.

I think any prev multi race winners could win on that bike.

Comparing apples to oranges. The Duc Rossi rode was a disaster. Gigi has made the bike at least rideable by more than one rider. I say that if Borenzo isn't competitive on THIS bike it says more about his ability, or lack of, to adapt to a new bike.

Yep. Not the same bike, rules, tires, time, etc, etc, etc. Duc of 2017 isn't the Duc of yore.

Still.... Lorenzo who?

Yep yep yep.

Not the same bike in the least. Will he win a race? Maybe. Tough field this year, only getting tougher as the years pass. Lorenzo now finds himself in a tough spot; tricky bike, and young bucks vying for podium slots.

It rarely gets easier as more time passes.

agree hard comparison - i'm sure this is a friction point comment but Lorenzo doesn't perform worth a damn if it's not sunny and perfectly dry conditions. Issues on the duc aside, he's praying the rain gods to chill the f*ck out for this season if he wants to make more podiums.

Vinales is the guy to beat this year IMO.

JLo is on a better bike with better support and engineers. He'll most likely struggle at first. But once he finds his groove he'll dominate.. until he mind fucks himself or it rains.

i dont think the Duc is ready to dominate yet. their handling character just doesnt suite ALL the tracks, maybe only half of them at this point. until they can fix the last bit of understeer that still plagues them from way back in 2009, theyll suffer at all the tracks that dont allow them to point-and-shoot. plus Jorge is no Stoner. i dont think he'll ever ride around the limitations of the Duc.

We will know the answer in November. FWIW I don't see anyone dominating this year. I do see some very interesting races, though. And Jorge will either have to relearn his style or get used to lowsides. Agreed with Robert, Jorge hates bikes moving around. Marquez should be riding that beast.

Rossi years - no wins
Gigi's bike, 2 different race winners in 2016...

So even when Casey was riding it the bike got worse, Gigi come's in and it's a front runner with 2 different "B" class riders. Lorenzo won't dominate, but he'll win races.

-there is no guarantee that the 2017 Duc is 'better' than Rossi's 2011 Duc. With that logic, this makes Rossi's performance look even worse, since Stoner had 3 wins and 9 podiums just the year before.

-Arguably, the level of competition has greatly increased since 2011. Marquez wasn't racing. Iannone and Vinales weren't racing.

In the end, if Lorenzo has but one podium like Rossi did in his first year against lesser competition, one could say that Lorenzo already would have surpassed Rossi's accomplishments on the Duc.
