One day of testing in the books. Time to predict the '18 champion.

I think that would be a mistake for Zarco. He should hold out for the Factory Yamaha seat since he knows he’s had success on the Yamaha platform. He risks being the next Iannone if he switches manufacturers so early in his career.

At least the statements effectively end what we've all known but lazy internet journos against deadlines have been speculating:

MM is not going to KTM.

Pffffffffft. His only hope is VR suddenly retires and he somehow lands a factory seat for a year before Yamaha crowns their next would-be up and comer.

Zarco turned 27 in July. Even if Rossi were to retire and he were promoted to the factory team, Zarco would probably be #2 to younger Viñales at Yamaha. Yeah, Jarvis tries to maintain two #1 riders but that is a delicate balance that doesn't always work.

Zarco would presumably be the #1 rider at KTM. #1 rider at a factory that is serious about winning is every rider's dream and Zarco likely has a short window of a few years to land a spot like that.

For off-season video pass holders, there is a long and very candid discussion with Hervé Poncharal of Tech 3 when he joins Steve Day in the booth around the 4:30:00 mark of day one testing. Poncharal shares some great insights on Zarco, the possibility of Rossi running a MotoGP team and the future of Tech 3 among other things. Its worth a listen.

Miller's bike had the salad box so I'm guessing it was 17.

Somebody volunteer to do the standard deviation on the lap times so we know who is really the fastest. Does this "return to form" of Viñales indicate that his psyche is actually less robust and more susceptible to the rigors of real racing than Lorenzo's?
