Todays news from EICMA

BMW officially announces its new BMW Motorrad team of Sykes and Reiterberger.

Honda splits with Ten Kate and begins a new partnership with Althea Moriwaki with (get this) some genuine backing from HRC. Riders are Leon Camier and blast-from-the-past Ryuichi Kiyonari. Yup.

http://www.worldsbk.com/en/news/2019...i%20for%202019

Quote:
2019 will mark the return of a superbike legend, as Japanese Ryuichi Kiyonari will make his first WorldSBK start since 2009, when he was last on the grid with Honda. Bringing a host of experience with him, he explains: “First I am a bit surprised as are HRC coming back to Superbike, and I am surprised HRC called me. It’s been 10 years since I have ridden in SBK®, I am very happy to join this big project. I have two years of experience in WorldSBK - in 2008 and 2009 and it’s very competitive. It’s not easy to finish in the top six, but we have a good bike and a good team, if I can do a good job I hope I can get good results.”
Ryuichi, you're not the only one who is surprised.

Kyonari is awesome but.... i mean... c'mon.
Is Petronas going to run a team here? That was the rumor.

What was the Petronas rumor? Aren't they already sponsoring the new SIC/Yamaha MotoGP team?

Is HRC really coming back? Like the real HRC and not just a small HRC logo on a pit crew shirt?

perhaps it is the real HRC. I bet the convo went something like this, "we'll come back only if we can put a Japanese rider on the bike".

normally, a strong JSB competitor wouldn't be a bad thing. but Kiyonari aint the champ (9th this year) and he was nowhere in BSB a few years ago and hes old. theres no risk with him in WSBK, but wheres the reward? we get to be nostalgic about when WSBK was better and Kiyo won a few race. oh yay . hes not going to win next year because hes been racing against slower riders.

That is surprising. A few surprises there. Hope HRC is serious about winning.

Haslam on the Kawi still cornfuses me, but I like the guy.

BMW on the grid again is sweet.

Lets go APE!!! Get in the game!!

Well, the BMW effort looks serious. The HRC effort has potential and Ducati is no longer on a outdated platform. Add in Bautista riding well and having something to prove and we get a 2019 WSBK series which is looking much better on paper than the last few years.

Makes the Laguna issue an even bigger bummer.

Wondering about attending EICMA next year. Might get lucky like this guy and get to hangout with three 2018 champions.

I might tune in for the 2019 season. It definitely looks like Ducati is serious with those upgraded Panigales. Ready and Kawasaki ruined the last 2 years; actually the whole grid and manufacturers ruined everything by not putting up more money to compete.

HRC always wants a Japanese rider in the lineup in some fashion, so it's not surprising. If I had to guess Kiyo will help develop/communicate with HRC to give Camier the best bike possible and fulfill their need for that Japanese rider on the grid.

Haslam is a stop gap for Toprak. There's both contractual as well as political tug of war with Soufoglu being his manager and not wanting to give KRT control as well as Redbull vs Monster.

BMW coming back is awesome. Great for the series.

Let's hope Laguna gets resolved and that stays on the calendar. Though the persons responsible for marketing the Laguna round should be fired immediately, sad effort every year since they've been back.

Rumored they were going to have a Yamaha team and Beaubier was rumored a bit back about riding one of them. That seems to have dissipated though.... Maybe not just Cam but that team idea?

So yeah.... Will Camier have a REAL HRC bike to ride?

WSB not coming to Laguna in 2019. Supposedly back in 2020. Hope Moto America can provide a good enough show to retain the fans.
