I do not, but it's a holdover from riding since the late 80's. Nobody even thought about that kind of thing and nobody sued over it. You wouldn't need to insure your shoes, or your frisbee, or your skateboard, or your bmx bike, but it makes perfect sense today.

On my street legal plated dual sport, insurance required. On my green sticker bike, no.
But both are well used, if I had a new green sticker bike.... eh, probably still no.

I carry insurance on my dirtbike, not so much for the liability sake, but for comprehensive so I am covered for theft. The liability portion is the minimum my carrier would sell with comprehensive.

I carry the whole shebang. I am deeply worried in this litigious state. I also carry max UM/UI the added cost on the dirty bikes is about $100/yr additional to my street bikes.

Yes, tons.

I got hit by a dude going too fast and did some research and realized the liability could be a really big deal.

http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/fo...d.php?t=278284

I have a $3M homeowner umbrella policy, but it requires liability with my vehicles... it really cheap for the dirtbikes.

Edit: I detest the insurance industry and try to self insure as much as possible. So, no collision or comprehensive.

I actually got hit again two weeks ago at Hollister.
Some asshole passed me at a pretty high delta and clipped me just enough to knock my foot off the footpeg. While I was standing.

Fucking asshole. It could have been ugly. Jack was behind me and watched it happen I suppose.

Butch - I actually got totally rear-ended at Hollister on the TT track by a teenager at the end of last season. It seemed totally unnecessary, the TT track had a mixture of slow young kids, fast adults, courteous beginner/intermediates like me, and apparently at least 1 questionable ~12-14 year old. It was the 180 turn at the end of the back straight and judging by the impact I felt while I was just starting to turn left, the kid didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of not running off the track if he didn't use me as hay bale. The messed up thing is I was getting up off the ground trying to figure out what happened and survey the damage to my bike and body, and someone that appeared to be his Dad walked up to check on the kid, got the kid up and running again and then just disappeared off without even glancing at me the guy his kid just rammed. Shrug. I didn't check to see if they were handing out trophies on the TT track that day (they weren't)

Re: liability - do any auto/moto insurance companies write policies for non-street legal motorcycles? I've never thought of it.

Yes.
My basic moto liability on my bikes, street and dirt, are with Progressive. My $2M umbrella liability policy is with Liberty Mutual.

Yes mine are covered dirt cheap through Markel. Comprehensive requires liability, but like I said, dirt cheap. So cheap you'll take the max coverage.

BTW, I assume everybody knows if you have a house fire and your bikes burn, homeowners does not cover your motorcycles. That's why you need comprehensive for the bikes.
