I came here to ask about it. They filed ch11 in the early 2000s as well. Wife was gifted a bunch a long time ago, wondering if we should add more to the portfolio.

PG&E (Ticker PCG) announced today that they are filing for bankruptcy. A couple weeks ago the stock was in the high twenties, today it is trading at eight. Kinda what I figured would happen.

To be honest, I can't see that as a winning trade under current circumstances

Iím not sure what will happen but this is pge third bankruptcy. I assume based on previous plays this could enventually be a good buy or at least what comes from it.

You got in at the bottom, cashed out on the bounce, then shorted on Friday?

What's your thinking? A lot of bankruptcies end up penny stocks and then die. The point of the reorganization is to shed debt. The very first debt shed is the shareholder equity.

How does this work then, they fold completely out and Edison takes over? Get bought out? Stop paying dividends? We don't get payments on my wife's shares, what's the danger in adding to them in a crash?

If they're doing what they say, anyone holding shares could end up at literally zero. Even though they say they're not bluffing, my gut says that saying they're not bluffing could easily be part of their bluffing strategy. Basically ask yourself what's the worst thing they could do and there's a decent chance that's also the most likely thing to happen.
