9-16-18 Bill's Birthday Ride. Smoke & Ash tour.

Mark your calendars, Bill's Birthday Ride is coming, September 16, 2018. Posting early as I will be in Switzerland returning just before this ride. Jetlag be damned we are going riding.

You have waited all summer for this ride. Bill is 68 and needs to go for his annual ride. We will leave at 7:30 AM and head for 50's Diner in Knights Ferry for Breakfast. Up Hwy 120, through Yosemite* and lunch at the Whoa Nelle Deli. Back over Sonora Pass. This is a full day ride, we will make several stops for everyone to catch up, ride safely at your own pace. This has been an internationally attended ride with riders from British Columbia and Tennessee (foreign to CA). Come out a have a great ride.

* NOTE The park service has changed their policy. If you do not have a pass there is a $30.00 fee to go over Tioga Pass.

Just over a week to go to my birthday ride. 5 more days in Switzerland then I am back in CA

Just looked 108 and 395 are closed by the boot fire. Too many fires this year
https://yubanet.com/Fires/boot/

89 closed for some reason until 9/10. Will be checking road condition next week.

You did not say where to meet, I assume it is Stockton. Are you planning to take 120 all the way or do you take back roads, like Cherry Lake and around Oakdale? I'm a little concerned with all the RVs on Tioga Rd or the tickets if you pass them ;-)

Yes map is in Stockton. This is an annual ride and we do go all the way across Tioga. How else are we getting to lunch at Whoa Nelli Deli. We do Old Sonora road on the way to breakfast at the 50's diner.

Since you went to Kings Canyon last weekend, what temperature range would you expect? Thinking about joining but not sure what to wear, mesh or Gore Tex suit.

It shouldn't be hot there Sunday. Highest temp. you'll likely experience would be +80°F in the foothills late afternoon. At 9,000' expect +50~60°F

Thanks Ich, you're a saint!

I'm still debating if I want to wake up at 5:30 to make it

If you want to sleep in we will be leaving Breakfast at the 50's Diner in Knights Ferry around 9:30 am. We are a Motorcycle Club with an eating disorder.

Ah, perfect! I'll aim for 9:15 am at the diner. Will be on a black wee-strom with top box.
