Tracy Police Department Motorcycle Officer Harley Beemer Zero

Just wanted to share a cool pic I took of Tracy Police Department Motorcycle officers as they led a parade today. I didn’t know they had Zero Electric motorcycles in their fleet. That guy really knew how to maneuver that thing around!...

This is a market they've been working on for a while. Scott's Valley PD—not surprisingly—was the first department to get a Zero. They showed one of their police bikes at the previous SFPD international competitions, not sure about this last one (Moto Bay Classic).

Here's more about their police and military lines. We actually poked fun at this a bit in CityBike a while back—some of the marketing images for the police bikes are hilarious.

Edited to add a couple I dug up.

There are more PD's out there with Zero's than you might think.

While working at Zero I visited several central valley PD's to service and upgrade their Zero's.

The LAPD was testing the Zero while I worked there too. Specifically for park and trail policing.

Turn that Zero off!
One incident that occurred that required some body work repair...
An officer was sitting on his Zero in the parking lot. Another moto officer, sitting on his bike next to the zero reached over and twisted the throttle.
This launched the Zero (and rider) forward and into the bushes.
The moto officer didn't realize that the zero was on and ready to go (no motor noise).
The Zero rider learned the lesson... when parked TURN THE KEY OFF.

Last year at the Electric Drive Event at De Anza College (sadly not this year's event that was yesterday) there was a police officer with a Zero bike. I forget what department he was from probably Los Altos something. He says he really liked it also.

Also a LONG while back I stopped by a police motorcycle gymkhana event and Zero had a police bike there and they had a Zero Police Challenge with it on the course.

Darn, missed the event. Usually some "unique" electric vehicles show up there.

The De Anza/Foothill Police have two Zero's. I've serviced them both. They're parked at Foothill HQ when not being ridden. They split patrol time between De Anza and Foothill colleges.
