WTB sport tourer, FJ-09 or very similar. Possible trade KTM 690sm.

Looking for a nice sport tourer for the wife and I. My budget is around $8000 but can move a little depending on the deal. Let's see what you have!

Also, if you are interested I have a 2007 KTM 690sm (the rare beaker) up for trade if you are interested. I'd value it at $3k since its salvage titled but it is well sorted and runs great.

EDIT: Purchased an FJ! Thanks fo all the offers.

Thinking about selling my 16 fj-09 only has about 2400 miles on it. Suspension has been done and a few other things. Pm me if you want to talk about it.

Have you ridden an FJ-09 ...? Two Up? Might be a bit tight if you are both "larger" folk. If tiny ... then would be OK.
If you want really good, practical two up comfort, within your budget, you could go with older BMW's or KTM's. 990's, RT's, GS's. All pretty good two up, over priced expensive to keep. But most over $8K unless very high miles.

Best VALUE, most reliable, cheapest to maintain ... IMO would either be Vstrom DL1000 (newish one) or Kawi Versys 1000 LT ... which is the bike I'm buying soon.

I'd get round to the dealers and have a sit and a few test rides. Also consider:
older Tiger 800 or 1200 Tiger. Also Kawi Concours, Ninja 1000, Honda ST1300. Not bad at all. Or even an older Ducati Multistrada 1200 or Aprilia Caponord.
RIDE, THEN DECIDE!

Just picked up an FJ with full Ohlins!

My wife and I rented one this past weekend, and don't get me wrong, it was a great bike, but it desperately needed better suspension. Luckily there was an FJ with full Ohlins and I jumped on it. Only took a small ride with the lady but it handled great. We aren't "larger" folk, I'm 5'11 200 and she's 5'2 115 so we fit very comfortably on it. Man, that Yamaha triple is addicting.

Are you interested in an fz-09 at all? Not exactly sure how it compares to the fj, but you might be able to pick one up for cheaper, which could leave you room to dial in the suspension. I about your size and have an fz and love it. Only complaint is that the suspension could definitely be improved. Especially if you’re going to be riding with two people for long periods.

Not affiliated but there is a VFR1200 DCT for sale by one of the forum sponsors and within your price range. A sport tourer delight. Then, there are super deals out there for almost new bikes (just a few thousand miles) even at dealers in the budget range you have. Multistradas, Caponords, Connies, STs, all highly capable and easily within your budget. Maybe expand your horizons a bit because moving around room has big advantages 2 up.
