Bear Gulch Road?

I see on the map that it connects HW 84 in San Gregorio to HW35/Skyline at the top. legit? I've seen it from both ends while in the car. I guess I'll just have to do a recon run Monday...

Hmm I checked it out on streetview and google map/earth. Looks like a 1.5 lane mountain road then it transitions to a dirt road. It might be private property though. Let us know how it turns out!

From 84 you will hit a gate a few miles in. From Skyline it goes down maybe 5 miles to another locked gate and is actually a nice short ride. Both are worth checking out. Neil Young owns the land in between.

If you want good connector roads to 84 look at Old La Honda Rd and Alpine to Pescadero Rd.

can you share a link where this is? I think I live fairly close to this and have seen this same area, but want to be sure I'm thinking of the same place. I drive by here on my way to work I think if it's the same area - would be awesome to be able to through here on my bike.

I don't remember a gate heading North(East) from 84, but there is one heading West from 35. It's a pretty cool view coming down the hill from 35 once you break out of the trees. There's lots of blind corners but the traffic is locals who drive pretty cautiously through there. Every winter there's wash-outs and fallen trees on the 35 side of Bear Gulch. I used to go there once a month to do AC maintenance for the studios.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I found this while researching the same question. Sadly, this road is closed to through traffic:

So, I guess Neil Young lives in between the gates At least, that’s what I’ve been told. I’ve driven up from the San Gregorio side too, some cool houses tucked away but I haven’t actually seen his house. Maybe I didn’t go up far enough though...

Indeed. There are gates with "No Trespassing" signs in Neil's signature bubble letters. His place is a fair enough distance away from the gates based on Google Earth anyway.

Earlier today, from 35 Skyline side. It's mostly single lane, twisty and pretty. Ended in a gate (second photo below) about 4 miles down from 35.
