Where should Moto Safer Barriers be located???

As part of the CA Motorcycle Safety Committee we have been looking for places for the State to add Safer Moto Barriers.

Here is your chance to share your thoughts.

Safer Barrier Technology is going to be installed at more High Motorcycle Crash Locations, CalTrans has developed a survey form to compile a list of possible locations for motorcycle barrier installations.

The purpose of this form, is to collect as much information as possible about specific locations on the State Highway System where this safer barrier technology may be considered. The resulting list will be given to there Traffic Safety Office for further analysis and determinations.

The survey form will be accessible until May 31st 2018 at the link below. I have to turn them in myself, but please take a look and let me know where and why you think this should be done at that location. It has to be specific.

http://www.dot.ca.gov/trafficops/shs...rvey-Form.docx

The form is self-explanatory. Please provide as much information as you can. I will forward the good ones into the Strategic Highway Safety folks.

You can email me the forms @ thebudman@kobza.com

Thanks!

I don't have a particular bend that would benefit more than any other bend. Can I instead add my support to that one bend that would get most requests?

The mean left hander, heading west about 2 miles above the Shoreline Junction.

I call it the "Patrick Corner" because I had to pull Patrick out from under the guardrail. The guardrail has been replaced recently, with some concrete poured as a "skirt" along the edge of the road.

But seriously, it has gotten many riders. Not me, though.

This is great, will definitely contribute. Those barriers look low-tech (not big $) enough to do the job and be widely distributed.

Safer barrier I'm thinking race tracks.
When I took a look at it they are designed to prevent riders from hitting the poles or going through the bottom of a guard rail.
How such a simple device will save lives and reduce injury.
Hell this should be put up on any popularly ridden roads where there are guard rails.

Freeway entrance and connectors that have turns in which a rider will gas it. I’ve seen riders take those wide and go into traffic that’s already going 80mph.

Am sure someone like DataDan can provide stats on the most common roads where motorcyclists crash.

Yeah... I shared Ricky Mouses videos with our committee as part of the push to roll more of these out. They had one installed on 49, but were not actively looking to add more.

A gentle nudge from BARF and the AMA helped.

Thanks to Dan and Jim I have turned in two spots.

If you want to list your spot please used the form and email to me!

Got a week to finalize our suggested curves. I can think of a couple on 84, but have not had time to scope them out myself.

Thanks, Dennis.

Just this AM.

I assisted 2 Harley riders pull one of their bikes out from under the "Patrick Corner". They had ridden from Bend, Oregon, and were caught by surprise by the uneven road surface. Bike rashed up pretty good, but rideable.

No serious injuries, thankfully, but a very close call.
