Headed down to the Carrizo plain to try to catch it before it turned brown. I took Redwood to Palomares to slogging to Uvas to 25. I meant to camp at a BLM site off of Los Gatos/Coalinga road, but blew right past the turn off. So I pressed on to Parkfield Grade:

Coming from a family of geologists, I like this sign:

From here, I continued on to 41 to 229 to 58. I thought there were camping facilities off of Red Hill road, but I didn't find them, so I camped off of a green OHV trail

My new tent is like the Taj Mahal compared to my previous coffin.

In another thread someone mentioned something about Woody, Glennville, 155 and how they can't stop thinking about it. This stuck in my head, carrying on to find 155. Woody Rd or Granite Rd or Woody/Granite Rd.?

155 is a stunning road, unfortunately it started raining on me around Glenville and the more I climbed the colder and wetter it got. As I got closer to the summit, the roads had ice and at Shirley Meadows the rain turned to this white stuff, that didn't stick on the ground but stuck on my visor. I wasn't prepared for this, my hands, feet and neck were wet and I was freezing. I carried on to Kernville and then 178 back to the valley to visit some folks, the main reason for this trip.

The mighty Kern river:

Got a late start the next day and headed out on Round Mtn. Rd back to Woody/Granite Rd. This time, I cut off at Jack Ranch Rd. This was a really handy roadside map that informed me that I probably didn't want to try to get California Hot Springs, not this time at least.

I popped down to Porterville and then rounded my way to Yokohl Valley Rd. From Springville:

Knowing I had to get back to the bay, I slogged it the rest of the way home. It's amazing how a few hours of highway riding can totally wipe me out, but I feel fine after multiple hours on more technical roads.

Thanks to GB500Guy, SFMCJohn and others who post pictures and ride reports that inspire me to get out.

I love 178, 155, and yokohl valley. Sounds like an awesome trip!!! If you take famoso to 155 you get to go through the orange groves and it smells awesome!

I know famoso! When I was a little kid, my dad used to take me to the drag races out there. Lot's of olive trees too, if I remember correctly, I used to think that I could just pick them off the trees.

Nice ride report! Great roads around Kernville! Yokohl Rd is awesome. I loved the roads all around Kernville.

Here's some photos of Yokohl just to encourage you to ride it, John.

And Matty, yeah Famoso is how I got to 155. It just smelled so magical and wonderful in late March.

Here I am just after getting onto Woody-Glennville Road.

It really is a cool part of the world and it was so empty, I hardly saw a living soul outside of Kernville. A dual sport would open up a lot of alternatives for exploration

Au contraire, been tracking the miles since day one on my handy GPS, mounted using a curtain rod holder
Exactly 510 miles in, on this particular trip.

Oh yeah, under my tenure, shitbike has been up to 36,through mendo, los padres, big sur, explored multiple forestry roads around Sonora pass. There have been a few niggles, hiccups and quirks along the way, but Shitbike lives on
