Notes:
- Home race for former Stockton resident and AMA 600 Supersport racer Leandro "Tati" Mercado. Also first WSBK race in Argentina.

- Rea can stomp on more records. He's won nine races in a row and a tenth would give him the record for consecutive WSBK race wins. Edwards and Hodgson share the record for nine straight wins. Rea can still accumulate most points in a season and break Doug Polen's record for most wins in a season if he wins the remaining four races.

- Racers are giving positive reviews of the track layout saying its really wide and fast.

- I have not forgotten about Nacho Colero.

- I haven't made any tango jokes yet.

First announced by the Government of San Juan back in 2015, the track has gone through numerous design iterations, with input from the FIM resulting in the final layout, penned by Argentine architect Leonardo Stella.

Hurray for Argentina, it's not just another track designed by He Who Must Not Be Named.

If you don't mind the garrulous videographer and the 360p, this video gives a reasonable impression of the elevation changes. Looks a bit like certain configurations of the Utah Motorsports Campus pka Miller Motorsports Park.

by the way, you guys hear that they're doing away with the 2 race per weekend format in favor of a 3 race weekend format for next year? guess they are going for quantity over quality

another track with a bunch of 1st and 2nd gear corners. so lame. this track is tiny and has a bunch of 1-line sections. and all the straights are short-ish with no run-up. there might be 4-5 hard braking passing zones, but im not holding my breath.

im gonna watch this weekend just to see the new track. but my expectations are low.

A three-race format would be cool if it led up to something. Like if they had heats leading to a main event so there was some build up to the big race on Sunday. Two races with a sideshow in between seems odd.

There aren't any details on the new format other than the Sunday morning race being a shorter distance. Short enough that no one has to worry about burning up the Pirellis? Thats about eight laps so we'll see.

BTW. How bad ass was-Doug Polen??

The guy who hit the road in his van chasing the dream in the Suzuki Gixxer Cup (the best platform for nobody’s and future stars ever invented. Props to Suzuki)

Tell ya what. Polen was....Bad ass.

If JR can beat Doug’s record then he is blessed. Hell he already is.
Johnny made his way on a less than privileged path and so did Doug. Hail to both. Love both those lads......well done

It has the second longest straight in SBK, 1.046 km vs Qatar's 1.068 km.

I don't think the track looks horrible, is not one of the classic European tracks certainly. But for a new track, it looks good to me.

I checked GoogleEarth before my last post and it wasn’t comparable to a track that size. It was closer to Sonoma, with turns smaller than Laguna. Maybe the scale on the satellite images is busted.

From the track walk pics riders and teams posted on Instagram, it looks wide and has some interesting elevation changes. Nothing dramatic but enough to be fun. We'll only get video highlights tomorrow. We can't get down to serious arguing about a track we'll never ride until Saturday.

Sometimes I jump into these threads and my mind goes back to the turn of the century SBK/AMA weekends at Laguna. Those really were the days.

Ok, fond look back over- a three race weekend? Sheesh. I don't know what to think yet. There's got to be a profit reason behind it, but I'm not going to work too hard to figure out what it is.
