Finally got helmet stolen off bike

Along with a pair of track level Alpinestars gloves. I used to carry my lid around like a warrior, got lazy, spoiled at the relative safety of CSUEB, but not two weeks into the semester at SJSU I had my helmet stolen from an SJSU parking structure. They just cut the fabric holding the metal right off.

Luckily I have another Icon Variant that is waiting to be worn, but not thrilled about having to spend more $$$ on a top box and rack, or go back to carrying my helmet around and warranting attention and potential for forgetting it or getting it stolen at school.

How much do your givi boxes and racks run? Any issues with theft or pretty damn secure? Perhaps I’ll just cheaply attach it to my backpack.

If anyone sees an XS icon Airmada pumpkin helmet without the metal piece being worn please give them the stink eye for me.

Sorry to see thieves fuck up your life.

years ago at college, someone tried to steal mine and twisted the d-ring all to hell. they must have used a bunch of tools and still failed. they didnt get it, but of course the helmet was useless. I started carrying it after that in a cheap padded bag and never had a problem.

Ohhh the bad karma of doing dangerous sports with stolen gear!

May their souls forever roast in hell.

A cable style gun lock is significantly more difficult to cut than a strap.

Oh hey I go to SJSU too! I carry my helmet around in a fleece type bag I got for like $15 (I want to say Dowco brand? There's plenty out there), definitely don't trust my stuff to the elements and public. Or I will occasionally just wrap the d-ring around the bottom of my backpack strap (diagonal sling type) and let it hang at the hip for short stuff. There's been quite a few calls for the campus to put up security cameras in the garages but not much has come of it unfortunately.

I'd like to hear more about the security of hard cases as well. I just had my soft bag cut off my bike with my tool kit, tire repair kit and jump starter inside. Fucking thieves!

I only leave my helmet and gear on the bike when traveling through small town USA. Out here, no way jose.
Sucks you had to learn this the hard way, but lesson learned?

I frequently store my helmet in my givi top case around the bay area and haven't had any issues with theft. I also rent a locker at SJSU to store my helmet as well. I'm really surprised at the number of people who leave their gear at their bike around the SJSU campus.

Hard case was yanked right off. It had a handle. I have snaked a big cable through my jacket sleeves and helmet, once. It's just going to piss them off and they'll slash something.

I see the same thing tfkrocks, I park on the street and walk by 5+ helmets and jackets near Y.U.H sometimes. Locker is definitely a good lazy option, do you use the the arena ones or are there others?

For a bit beefier cable, check out the Tresor 1340.
Not nearly as portable, but definitely not going to be cutting through it without something big and obvious to bystanders.

Both of these will hold a helmet to your bike through the faceshield instead of the D-ring.
