I bought a nice pair of prescription eyeglasses from them a little over a year ago. The (plastic) lenses were supposedly treated with some fancy anti-scratch coating, and to be fair they did put up with horrendous conditions. But now the coating is worn off and scratched through in some places. So I go back to them on my lunch break (downtown SF, right by my job), and ask them what they would charge for lens replacement. I know it ain't gonna' be cheap. The plastic clerk puts on her best cheerful smile, gives me a quote, and I damn near collapse.

$225! :eek Jesus jumped up Christ! I was flabbergasted. I know that these lenses probably cost them no more than $30 or so to make. Damn highway robbery if you ask me.

The f***ers. They can suck my left nut. :finger :finger

*Rant mode off* I need some coffee. :D

That's crazy! My complete glasses generally cost about $100 complete (I don't need some $$$ designer frames).

It was also only $95 to have Site For Sore Eyes to make me a set of prescription tinted lenses for my oakley frames.

Great googly moogly:eek :eek

I cant really talk though. I paid $500 for my perscription Oakleys(titanium).:rolleyes

$225 can buy lots of disposable contacts and plenty of saline and disinfectant (I'm a stingy bastard with these. I treat disposables like extended-wear, and disinfect them once a week. I've had the same pair for the last 3 months, ha ha!)

They wanted over $250 for my lenses. Not sunglasses either. Just plastic lenses. I said F*** NO! Went to another mom and pop shop and he said lenses run around $70. Then he looked at my perscription (Mine is really bad) and he said "Actually for these it's gonna be more expensive." I asked how much. He said "Probably about $100 - $110"

F***in' Lens Crafters!:finger

*Edit* Oh ya! I almost forgot. I hate SprintPCS too!:finger

see if there's a "for eyes optical" near you, good prices & service.

i made the mistake of going to lens crafters one time, :finger

Don't you guys have vision insurance through your company? VSP?

Ya. Mine covers $75 to frames and "Standard" Lenses. No scratch coat, no tint, no extra thin lenses.

<---- wants eye correction but too chicken to go "under the knife/laser" been waiting over 15 yrs. maybe this year do it? starting to hyperventilate already!

I do NOT plan to undergo any laser eye surgery. Too many horror stories about botched results.

I'm a lil skeptical about any corrective surgery myself. I'm sure the short term results are great, but I worry about long term degenerative effects. I kinda like my specs with the magnetic clip-ons anyways

I rarely wear the contacts, since I don't like feeling the lens on my eyeball and I hate having to buying that special water to clean the lenses.

I'm getting a pair of those this week. How do you like them. I have the regular clip-ons now but don't like the "claws" that hold them on. The mags are a good idea cause it eliminates them.
