• ZERO- WHERE DID MY AD GO?
    • It has likely been deleted for running egregiously afoul of the rules below. Feel Free to try again

1- DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SELL THE FOLLOWING ON BARF:
    • animals, though free re-homing is ok.
    • anything illegal.
    • drugs, legal or not.

2- Sellers, for best results... please read and follow these instructions:

    • Asking price [MANDATORY] in the BODY ONLY. DO NOT PUT PRICE IN THE TITLE
      • motorcycle or other vehicle:
        - make [MANDATORY]
        - model [MANDATORY]
        - year [MANDATORY]
        - Pictures [FIRST THING THAT WILL BE ASKED FOR IF YOU DON'T, BUT NOT MANDATORY]
        - mileage
        - title info
        - current condition
        - maintenance history
        - accident history
        - location
      • If selling riding gear, include:
        - size in the title of the thread. [MANDATORY]
        - in your post, include: intended gender/body weight/height/inseam/waist range that best fits the item.

    • Do not include the price in the title. You won't be able to edit it later. Put the price in the body of your post.
    • DO NOT INCLUDE LINKS TO 3RD PARTY SALES SITES Copy/paste your ad to BARF and make sure it includes the info above.
    • Edit your original post and change the price there... many buyers will not look beyond that point if you change the price later on further into the thread. Also, remember to add SOLD to first line of the first post when the item has been sold.
    • Please use the "Report this post to a moderator" (
      report.gif
) option at the lower left portion of the post if item is sold or to report erroneous posts or threads, and it will be taken care of.
    • With any indication that an item is sold, the thread will be locked by moderators. It is not fair to other valid ads to be pushed down the list when side discussions bump a sold ad to the top of the list. Moderators will do their best in changing the title and adding a 'sold' to the beginning of the title to save a few clicks for others.

    3- Buyers, BEWARE!!!

    • Pricing - Know the current market value of the bike. Check Kelly Blue book, NADA, CycleTrader, Ebay, Craigslist (even though some people on Craigslist are asking non-realistically high prices and will never be able to sell the bike at their asking price), and know what the current market value of a similar bike is before considering a purchase. Consider the maintenance work or fixes that YOU need to do to the bike, and factor that into the price. It is ok to pay more for a bike that has had all of the maintenance work done to it recently, or pay less and get a bike that needs some work, but you must know this in advance and be ok with it.
    • Inspecting the bike: if you are not experienced yourself, have a mechanic or an experienced friend check the bike before making a purchase. Crashed bikes:This is even more important if you are buying a bike that is being sold at a cheaper price with damages that the buyer is required to fix. In these cases, doing a frame check that will show any frame/fork/geometry damages is HIGHLY recommended. Do NOT simply rely on the information that the seller is providing, even he/she may not be aware of all the problems. Have the crashed bike checked and know what you are getting into.
    • Clean title, Salvage title A clean title doesn't mean the bike is free of serious issues. A Salvaged title doesn't mean the bike may have any problems. Every case is different. Some bikes are seriously damaged in a crash, but an insurance claim is never made on them, so they still have a clean title. Some bikes have had mostly cosmetic damages in a crash, but the insurance company decided to pay off the bike and salvage the title rather than spending the money to fix it. Know what you are getting into and don't make any assumptions based on what the seller is telling you.
    • Registration: Know about the current registration status of the bike. Check with DMV if you have any questions about any possible back fees and other title/registration questions (out of state title, no title with bill of sales only, etc.) before purchasing the bike.
    • Some additional tips: You can find some more useful info here: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216958

4- DO NOT make your opinion known in the seller's ad

    • Comments within a sale thread should be on topic and educational. Aggressive critiques and inside jokes will not be tolerated. Constructive dialogue is a valuable feature of the barf classifieds section and community as a whole. Flame wars and unsubstantiated accusations help neither seller or buyer. Don't fuck it up, because the next step is disabling the "reply" feature entirely.
    • If you disagree with a price, keep it to yourself. The seller has set the price. If you don't like it, don't buy it and move on. If you really feel strongly about it, then PM the seller.
    • If you are interested in an item, feel free to PM, email or contact the seller privately. Feel free to post if you need clarification... however, your post should be in line with above mentioned rules.
    • If you are aware of a serious issue with an ad (SPAM, stolen goods, a frame damaged bike being advertised as a 'never crashed' bike, etc.) please PM a moderator about it.

5- DO NOT SPAM the classifieds section on BARF

    • Spamming entails using only the classifieds sections of BARF without taking part in other sections of BARF (regardless of whether the ad is for a personal item or a business.) The appeal of BARF classifieds is to enable and connect BARFers with some established history on BARF to one another.

BARF isn't craigslist, ebay, cycletrader, etc. Buyers who are looking to buy from random strangers do so on one of the above mentioned sites. Those who only post in Classifieds sections and don't take part in other parts of BARF are no different than any other random sellers on Craigslist, etc., and should use channels other than BARF to try and sell their items.
    • If you're affiliated with a store/shop, please contact budman regarding sponsorship options. ALL non-sponsor commercial posts will be deleted. Site sponsors should post using only one account that is assigned a BARF SPONSOR tag.
    • We encourage the use of the classifieds by active contributing members. New members may post in the Classifieds forum after establishing minimal history on BARF (15 days and 15 posts). If you actively attempt to circumvent these minimum requirements only to post in classifieds, your account may be suspended. After reaching these minimums, posting only in the classifieds without taking part in other sections of BARF may result in being banned from BARF.

6- DO NOT repost funny/strange/not-related-to-you ads from Craigslist or elsewhere on BARF or anywhere else for that matter.
    • No reposting
    • No reposting
    • No reposting. If what you're about to post isn't for sale BY YOU, don't post it.

    7- SELLING FOR A FRIEND:
    • Is not allowed.

    8- Feeler, Testing Waters etc:
    • Is no longer allowed.

      • If you are unsure of the fair price of your item, use the search function to research other similar items, ebay, craigslist, nadaguides, kelly blue book or whatever else is applicable. The classifieds section is not a discussion forum, thus not the place to be asking for opinions on market value that might lead to massive gray areas of conversation that violate preceding rules outlined above.
  • There has been a recent cluster of spammers accessing BARFer accounts and posting spam. To safeguard your account, please consider changing your password. It would be even better to take the additional step of enabling 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) on your BARF account. Read more here.

- fork oil changed last year

- Tsubaki Sigma Gold chain (new chain & OEM sprockets @ 16K. Still in great condition. I hand check each roller and tooth)
- 7K miles on Sportec M3 tires. They still have tread, since I spend most of the time commuting and I only weigh 145 lbs.
- I'm including the Ventura luggage rail (pictured)
- I'm including the tank bra (pictured)
- I'm including the rear bubble seat cover (not pictured)
- I'm including the factory service manual (not pictured)
- clear title in-hand

Asking $5,500 (negotiable)
cash + M1 license = test ride (You break it, you bought it.)

Why am I selling? Wife said I can get a new bike since I commute so much, and I'm not about to let that opportunity go by. (Married guys reading this thread get it. ;-). I just bought new bike, so the Hayabusa has to go.

Nice!!! but I'm still thinking about selling mine... My wife told me the same thing.... "You should get the new busa honey"

still thinking...

paging Mike T...

how fast have you gotten it? Just curious...I would love to take a Busa to a closed off straight away one time...

45MPG commuting (I think the computer said 44.6 when I refueled two days ago).
50+MPG canyon carving up La Honda, Rt 9, etc.

Why does everyone ask the top speed question? It's public knowledge the stock 1999 & 2000 models will exceed 190MPH, so you're really asking how fast have I taken *this* bike. I stopped answering that question years ago, but I'll indulge one last time for antiquities sake.

I'm a conservative rider. The fastest I've ever had it is 115MPH and I only did that once in fall 2000 and only briefly. That speed only belongs on the track since it's really damn dangerous on the street. Of course the 'Busa will do nearly 3 times the legal speed limit, but that's completely missing the point. It's eye opening just how quickly the Busa accelerates from any RPM and any gear.

My routine speed, either commuting or canyon carving is either common speed or near posted. I don't have anything to prove to myself or anyone else. Both I and my bike are in one piece, and I plan to keep it that way. At my wedding, my best man roasted me for riding the world's fastest production motorcycle so slowly. :p

I was just curious...I totally agree that it's pretty crazy to stretch the Busa's legs on the street.

45mpg? phew.. my Fz1 clocks 36mpg when i'm lucky ;(

The Busa doesn't get 50mpg. Maybe if you go by the stock odo computer it'll say high 40's, maybe even VERY low 50's but that's not nearly correct. Put a speedohealer on it and you'll find that you'll get high 30's to low 40's. MAYBE mid 40's if you ride it like your Grandmother.

I should know, I've owned 2 and put them both through their paces on the street and track. I have many friends that ride Busa's and they'll all tell you the same. When you really start wicking a Busa up you'll see the mileage drop to the high 20's.

Having said that, the Hayabusa is iMHO THE ultimate motorcycle and it can do anything well with the right set-up. The power is second to none even by todays standard of 160hp liter bikes. Horsepower is no substitute for TORQUE. When you're on a bike that makes 160hp AND has almost 100lbs of torque at the wheel you'll realize what real acceleration is. I mean push your eyeballs to the back of your skull acceleration.:wow:teeth The 99's and 2000's are very sought after and for a Busa in as nice of condition that this one seems to be in $6500 seems very fair.

Oh BTW, the grey/red color scheem is my fav. Just wish the wife would let me have two Busa's at the same time :thumbup

I won't take the Grandmother remark personally and I admit the speedo is a bit optimistic. :teeth However, I weigh less than 150lbs and for several years, my commuting routinely gets me 167 miles on 3.7 gallons of fuel. If the odometer is off by a huge optimistic amount (10%, which I think violates federal law), I'm still getting 40MPG. Not too shabby for 156rwHP & 99lbft.

The Busa isn't a fuel pig if the RPM and throttle position aren't high and WOT, respectively. As you note below, the peak torque is huge and it's nowhere near redline. It doesn't take the Busa many RPM to generate considerable acceleration. Why clear 8K RPM when I think peak torque is below that? (All I wanna do is pass that damn Prius.)

:thumbup The Busa is indeed the ultimate motorcycle. I'm having a devil of a time picking a replacement.

I guess it all depends on what you want to do/how you want to ride? For your size (150lbs) it's a virtual buffet of motorcycles out there for you. me? I'm limited to the big bikes because I'm almost three of you put together :teeth.

You say you mostly commute? I'd consider the Bandit 1250S. Great bike, great price. Another "Jack of all trades" kinda ride...

Or maybe the V-Strom 650? I'm not really partial to the looks, but it's a great overall ride...

Or, if you have the funds don't rule out the BMW's. Something like the F800S? This is a pretty bike that'll be fun and fuel efficient at the same time.

Also, I just LOVE the look of this bike! The R1200S...

Just a few thoughts. But you're going to be spoiled having had the Busa under you for so long. You may find yourself looking at the '08 Busa.... :cool

It's best of not to clutter someone's thread, but i will counter in my findings. I have an '03 (same setup as below). I get 44Mpg commuting too. However I DO get much less in the hills when I m abusing it (more in the low to mid 30's). My '01, (with renegage full high mount dual, PCIII, healer), got like wise mileage.

Perhaps if you were running a PC, your mapping wasn't correct.

OP: I think for 32k miles your price is a bit too high, that is if you want to sell it quickly. :cool

Umm, isn't that the same as what I said?

And to me, commuting IS like riding like your Grandmother. Unless you like to get weekly citations on your way to work. :laughing:ride

My '01 Busa had a Yosh RS-3 race pipe (full), small airbox mod, BMC race filters, +3 on the rear sprocket, raised 1" on the rear and 190/55 rear tire. Plus, and this is the kicker, I weigh quite a bit more than the average rider :wow so my mileage was routinely in the low 30's. BTW, my Busa was mapped by Don at Modesto Ducati. I think he knows a thing or two about tuning bikes :teeth

As for his price, you must consider that the 2000 Busa was the last of the "unrestricted" hyper bikes. It's a bit of a collectible for the true enthusiast. If I were him I wouldn't take a penny less. I'd just as soon keep it than sell it for less than it's worth.

And I wouldn't consider this "cluttering" up his thread. Just consider it info for a potential buyer and a bump for a nice Busa. :thumbup

rumblephish: Thanks for the kudos and the recommendations. Much appreciated.

As for my asking price, mine is the *only* stock, uncrashed, 2000 Hayabusa you'll find. It is in superb mechanical and appearance condition. If you think I'm asking too much, make me an offer.

Since nothing even comes close to the Hayabusa performance curve, and the ZX-14 is butt ugly, I'm looking at more eccentric bikes that (obviously) have less power but great appearance.

The BMW 1200S really has my eye, though $14K is a bit steep. I never seriously considered BMW bikes since they've always been a little "qwirky". They're great bikes, but their suspension and appearance doesn't appeal to the average biker, possibly even me.

Also on the list is the new Monster 696. The ~$8,500 asking price is *really* high for a minimally adjustable suspension and comparatively low power output. I think Ducati has priced themselves out of the middleweight standard market where the SV650 and Kawasaki Ninja 650 strongly compete at around $1,500 less.

Notably, the SV650ABS is also on my list as well as the Triumph Speed and Street Triples, and VFR800. I know it's a broad swath of bikes and prices, but that's the real joy of a competitive market.

Admittedly, I won't find another motorcycle with the freight train engine of the Hayabusa. It is a superb bike.

:partymarried guy here ... wife said i can get a bike and I took the next day off of work and brought one home ... Good Luck !

:teeth:ride

I've reduced the price.
I'm going bike shopping Thursday (been too busy at work) and will likely be buying a replacement bike this weekend.

For those who haven't, you should visit a BMW shop that offers test rides. The boxer twin engines are *sweet*. The lateral engine rocking motion at idle takes a little getting used to (Buell owners will feel right at home), as does the crank and driveshaft drive torque. It's so easy to go quickly on a boxer (I rode the R1200R).

My bike is still for sale. Sorry, no payment plan or trades. Cash or bank check.
