CHP seeks motorcyclist who led police on chase, prompted school lockdown in Mill Valley

The California Highway Patrol was searching late Monday afternoon for the rider of a red Ducati motorcycle after authorities said the suspect led police on a lengthy high-speed chase before ditching the bike in a Tamalpais Valley front yard.

The pursuit and manhunt in the Tennessee Valley area prompted authorities to lock down nearby Tam Valley School for about 20 minutes, just before dismissal. Educators kept kids on campus until they received the all-clear at about 3:10 p.m.

"It was just precautionary," CHP Officer Chris Rardin said.

The incident began just after 2 p.m., when the CHP spotted the driver of the motorcycle, registered in San Francisco, traveling north on Highway 101 in Mill Valley at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

Authorities attempted a traffic stop at the Tamalpais Drive exit, but the rider took off, exiting the freeway at Bellam Boulevard in San Rafael. The driver led police north through Central San Rafael and into a neighborhood before turning south again, re-entering the freeway at Central San Rafael. In Corte Madera, the motorcyclist briefly exited the freeway before getting back on Highway 101 going south and then took the Highway 1 exit.

Authorities, who had lost sight of the motorcyclist, began a search, using a CHP helicopter to try to locate the suspect from the sky. During the search, a resident on the 200 block of Tennessee Valley Road called to report the abandoned motorcycle in the homeowner's front yard.

The hunt was called off just after 3 p.m. No arrests were made.
Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at call 707-551-4100.

ironic that the only person that can ride a ducati properly is the theif that stole it...:|

:later

was the guy wearing just a helmet and a hospital gown?

well he rode it like he stole it. Hope he gently put it down in that yard.

Owwww, so much Ducati hate and jealousy from those who cannot afford!

Meh, I could afford one if I curbed a few of my more expensive habits.

But why would I want to spend every one of my weekends patching oil leaks and figuring out why my bike won't run?

It sux sometimes and I don't like the motor oil stains all over the teak parquet flooring I had put in the garage... but then I tell myself it's better than having to throw away your vinyl-sticker-covered GSXR1000 because the roto molded plastic frame broke... or risking the embarrassment of someone you know seeing you ride a Honda with the Bold New Tribal Graphics Package (tm)

Sorry, I was trying out this "riding while high" thing and I might have smoked a little too much. My bad.
