*************SOLD*****************
So after a long and painful decision making process I have decided that it's best for me to move on from my lovely little 400 and look for another track steed when the time comes. I built this track bike from the ground up so am a bit sad to see it go but I've come to the realization that my time and attention will be better used elsewhere (like learning to ride better on an already-sorted bike =)
It went from this:
To this:
With *only* a lot of elbow-grease, sweat, tears, cursing, parts cross-referencing and other fun
Most of the consumables on the bike have only had 1 trackday on them, at a painfully slow pace so are in like-new shape
Important tidbits of information: (the good)
1996 Honda RVF 400 NC35
~10K miles (the 14K shown on the title is in km, so you do the math) on engine
Clean CA title
Valve clearances checked ~4 trackdays ago.
Standard exhaust, with Arrow can.
NC30 (VFR) carbs
520 sprockets and DID chain. like-new
Michelin Power Race and Power One tires (120 and 160). like-new
'06 GSXR600 complete front end (not exactly sure on year). This includes powerful dual-piston radial brakes. Fresh Oil and GP piston kit installed by Evolution Suspension.
'06 GSXR600 rear shock. Re-sprung (1100# spring) and re-valved by Evolution Suspension.
All suspension set for a ~180# rider and massaged by Dave Moss.
Tyga front body kit, tail section is standard fiberglass RVF solo seat.
Tyga rear-sets
Drilled and safety-wired
Frame and bar-end sliders
Single-Sided Pitbull Swingarm stand included
Key-less ignition system. Flip the red switch and fire it up
VFR and RVF Haynes Manual to aid all repairs.
Red paint with white number plates
Important tidbits of information: (the bad)
Currently registered for '09 as non-op, so if you want to convert it to street use, you'll have to pay reg.
Valve seats *may* need to be re-ground as I was told the exhaust was smoking when I was rolling off the throttle.
Carbs need to be properly tuned. It is running quite lean right now with #118 jets courtesy of Dave, but still hesitates a bit above 10K.
Gas tank is a bit dented but fully functional
Was lowsided a year ago on the left side with minor scratches to the lower bodywork and frame-slider which did it's job.
Speedometer has been removed from the instrument cluster as it was interfering with the controls and the speedo cable had snapped anyways.
As a 400 with a CA title making it into a road bike will likely be of interest to some people. I do not however have the bodywork and/or lights to easily make that conversion, which would be a full restoration effort, cosmetically speaking. I have a tub (or two) of spare/random parts that include some of the bodywork and some lights, an extra set of carbs, original NC35 rotors (may or may not be straight), stock exhaust can, passenger footpegs, a dented tank and other misc stuff.
As far as keeping it on the track, it is pretty much ready to go, with a lot of little tweaking that needs to be done here and there. Main thing as I said above is to get it on a dyno and get the jetting sorted out. Since I'm living in SF now without a garage, everything that should be a quick and easy fix takes a lot longer and more effort than I can easily provide, hence the sale.
Price is $3000. Not really looking for a trade at this time.
Cockpit looks like this:

And here is the coveted CA title:
