I saw a similar thread on Sport-touring.net a while ago, and thought it might be fun to play local photo tag.

Here's how it goes: you take a photo of you and your bike (if possible) at a particular location. You post up the photo here, and give a hint of some kind.

Someone recognizes the spot, goes out and takes a photo of it themselves, and posts it up. Then, they get to post a new picture, and start the next round.

If it takes too long to get, you can give more hints. Photos should stick to the general vicinity of the Bay Area.

I'll start:

Hint: On weekends, you can take a train ride nearby.

Good luck.
Here's the map with locations tagged:

There's also an East-Bay-only game going on here: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325748

Sweet.
Bike in the shot? Preferably, but not necessarily. Don't give it away 'til you post a picture, though!

I saw the picture and new exactly where it was taken. Pretty obscure place, most people I have mentioned it to have never heard of it. What's with the purple cloud. :teeth

Aw that one's too easy! I'd take my bike there but it's got no brakes :p

I'm liking the idea! I have a location I want to do, gotta plan on how the hell I'm gonna get my bike to it now!

So you will all have a challenge once I take over!

Rules Guidelines

* To start, someone posts a photo of their bike with a landmark, sign, etc. Clues may be given along with the photo.

* Individually other participants ride to the same place and get a photo with THEIR bike at the same/similar spot.

* The first person to "tag" the photo by posting their photo with their bike gets to post the next photo to be found.

*If no one is able to identify the tag, the poster can give progressively easier clues until someone finally says "Ah Ha!" though please don't post the location of the tag until after someone else has tagged it. The hunt is part of the fun.

*The exact location should be divulged after 24/36/48 hours so the game keeps moving.

*Some discussion should take place on boundaries - some of us really don't leave our little corner of the Bay, unless absolutely necessary.

*Host your images ELSEWHERE - bandwidth is costly - from what I've heard.

*OP for the 'region,' gets to keep the game moving, and moderate the images if things become stagnant.

*No Photoshop (unless someone starts a fake/historic tag game)

I *think* I know where that is. Hmm...

I like how you think 'cause that's just about exactly what I started doing.

Great location for a week when it's supposed to rain :)

Hrmm.. punt work and rain ride or not...

Rule Guideline adjudication, Nemo: must photos for next locations be new photos? If so, can they be taken before taking the photo for the current location?

(For me, this would address several things like, "May I use my pool of 500 location photos of my bike instead of going to a new location?" and "May I shoot them out of order for convenience's or art's sake?")

Probably best left to those in the 'regional,' game. I'm thinking there could be maybe six 'games,' going once Mondays get nice enough to ride on.

As for using your catalog of bike pron, sure, but you're sorta missing the point.

Whatchoo thinkin' 'bout there, Willis? Six games? Like multiple concurrent ones with different schedules or scopes? (I actually like the idea of multiple ones once it gets warmer / drier / more daylightier ... show up at location A, check phone, drat someone posted this, move to location B... etc.)

Naww, I don't have that catalogue of pron -- you've seen my bike, right? -- just raising the point. ;o)

Multiple locations because I'm not going to recognize much out of my little area of usual riding- if there is no action, or the game stalls it will die quickly - if every photo has the ocean in the background, I'm probably going to stop looking, but if there are cows......

There could be one round going in San Francisco pretty easily just within the city limits as an example.

If the areas are 'reasonable,' I might be more apt to go looking if I think I know where it is, versus a photo on some little goat trail that only someone dumping a body or needing to take a leak will know about. So the same photo of Mt Ham gets posted every 4th day - lacks creativity but it keeps people looking for the next photo op.

*I copied the s-t.net game onto a scooter forum and there are at least 4 rounds going in the Bay Area, as well as three in San Diego, two in LA, plus others happening in big cities across the US and they're all pretty active. I've seen great pics of a monastery in the SC hills I'd never even heard of - great way to learn about the Bay.

I know where the two photos above are, but not Nemo's initial pic... This looks like it could be a fun game. :)

Now I wanna know where the monastery is! Don't know where the second set of photos are, though.

I'm all for modifying guidelines to keep the game going. If it's a rainy week, it seems ok to bust out stuff from the photo archive. Splitting the game into quadrants or similar once it gets warmer and brighter seems fine, too. Also, it seems wise to keep any dirt versions that arise separate from the street versions.

And I have no idea what the hell the purple cloud is. In the viewfinder of my crappy little point and shoot it was just sun glare...but maybe I've found the ghost of Prince occupying a remote location in the East Bay? :laughing

Cool, Ritch. I want a scooter to do it on too. :x

Are those photos in the BA? If they are I'm surprised that I don't have the foggiest. I've spent a fair amount of time in everything on that map except east of Lib'Mo and northeast of Benicia.

The flip side of what you're saying is that having multiple games would enable more people to be involved. IIRC the 'find the cache' game on SBR wound up having some people feel left out 'cause the cache rarely made it to the east side of the Bay. I'm just looking at the other side: the more people there are actively involved, the better / faster the game is. Heck, we could even wind up with inter-game competition.
