Just spent a week riding through Nevada and Oregon. Ran into all kinds of wild horsepower out there...

Well, ok, these guys don't put out any real "horse" power but I like them
anyway...

wow. beautiful pics.
those are some fine asses.

:thumbup

Why, thank you :tails

Those old radial engines are a thing of beauty. Thanks for posting up the pics!

The pleasure was all mine:) Those engines were from a B-24 Liberator that crashed in February of 1945, killing all 11 men on board. The debris field was pretty extensive and all 4 engines were there. Here's a few more...

I was pretty stoked to find it, as I had no maps or GPS coordinates or anything. I knew it was there, though, and we just went exploring looking for it. The elation I felt at finding it was tempered by the fact that it was a spot where 11 young men had lost their lives. It was a highlight of the trip, for sure.

Great pictures, the front tire on that Husky is awesome!! Looks like an awesome ride, thanks for sharing!

Amazing pictures. Thanks for posting.

It is incredible those old, rotary engines are littered out in that valley. They look very artistic in your shots. I would love to have been along on the trip. Looks like a great time. Where is this crash site located?

That is some crazy looking rubber you have on your bike. I bet they hook up great out there.

Well, I don't know about awesome...but it sure is big :laughing

whats the story behind this one?

do you use tubes with those 17" knobbies?

Eh, it was only jetting changes, but I really like the photo. The sun had just come up and it was about 36 degrees. Yeah, I use HD tubes in all my knobbies.

Amazing pictures. Thanks for posting.

I figured with all the gear heads on BARF that someone would appreciate the photos of the motors :) They aren't in a valley, though, they're strewn about a meadow perched at 7500' near a peak in the Pueblo Mountains on the Nevada/Oregon border. Another 100' and they would have lived to tell the tale. In the photos below, the meadow can be seen in the upper right...

Yeah, the knobbies hook up well when the soil is moist. Didn't have much of that this trip but when I was there in May it was spectacular with rain every night and blue sky every day. The 17" knobbies throw up a ton of rocks and churn the soil like a crazy rototiller :laughing

BTW, seeing the engines strewn across the landscape I can easily imagine the carnage and the 11 lives lost. Makes me want to ride there and leave something for the souls lost.

I'd like to die a sudden death in the desert. Rather become part of the land, than any other choice.

There is just something about the Desert.

Great pictures Woodschick :thumbup

agree

no trophy trucks... for shame.

Sorry :p I was just going to post the wild horses, then figured I'd better keep it on topic and post all the other horse power I ran across while out there.

Yep, I'm with you guys on that one. I sat there and contemplated the scene, and I thought to myself that there were a lot worse places to leave my bones to rot than this beautiful high plateau overlooking some stunning country. It was so quiet and peaceful and serene up there. I'm looking forward to going back, and I will bring a fresh flag (at the very least) for the servicemen. I'm surprised there isn't a more permanent monument up there, sort of like what they did for the rugby players that crashed in the Andes.
