So the rumor goes. Scheduled for 2012. Some other juicy tidbits as well.

A new V-twin motor and electronics package for the super duke and adventure lines.

The new Adventure series is supposed to have modular construction, and will see a variety of displacements reside in the same chassis. According to Nieuwsmotor we can expect to see 1,200cc, 1,000cc, and 700cc/800cc models from KTM in this department, but we’re not sure how a 1,000cc would differentiate itself from a 1,200cc machine and what we assume will be an 800cc model to compete with the F800GS and Triumph Tiger 800.
However Nieuwsmotor does go on to say that the smaller displacement Adventure bike will be very off-road capable, more so than the Triumph Tiger 800 XC, and we imagine that the bike will draw on its Dakar roots in design and performance.

A smaller/lighter Adventure would be sweet. Always envied my friends 640 Adv. The vibes, not so much.

Interesting.

Seems they own the 1L size. I've talked to a lot of people lately who are downsizing from the 12gs to the 8gs. So, maybe it makes sense for them to jump on board. Maybe they make it more dirt oriented then the f8gs.

The sub-400lb 80hp dualsport is going to get crowded.

The small displacement bike will be a pig but hella stout if it resides in a chassis designed for a 1200. I was disappointed that the Tiger 800 weighed so much more then the 675.

I sure wish we would just get an adventure version of the 690, with some chassis and engine modifications to make it suitable for longer rides and longer service intervals. I don't see any problems with a single cylinder if they can make it that smooth- in fact it's got ideal rideability for a dirt/street bike. And they could deliver something around the 350 lb range dry without too much unobtanium.

Strange that KTM has not added that bike yet, ADV sites talk about them. Most 650 singles make a little less the 50 HP at the rear while the KTM makes a little less the 60. 3,000 for oil and filters along with 6,200 on valve adjustment isn't bad for a hot single. My guess would be that the market really wants a comfy SUV bike that you can rack up the miles with and do some trail and fire roading on. Kawi could add 15 or 20 HP to the KLR650, lose 30-40 pounds and be sitting pretty.

None of them will be sub 400 wet.
But it would be nice if they could find a way to lose about 100 pounds compared to the 990 Adventure. I would be glad to lose 20 horsepower to lose the extra weight.

And I don't want a big single, I want a V-twin. My XR650L works well enough in the big single category and already weighs less than 400 pounds.

More choices. I was seriously thinking about selling my Caponord and buying one of the new Triumphs, but if this is for real, I may wait a year and see what this one looks like.
I like the narrowness of a V-twin.

Scott -

What's weird is my 990adv feels lighter then my f8gs. Even though it's 60lbs heavier dry. Even moving it out of the garage is easier.

I haven't taken it off road yet, but I think you are right about the horsepower. I'll never use all 106 horses.

Ktm. How about a lower seat height for us AVERAGE height guys.

Believe it or not there are assholes that wake up later than I do. Oh, look - here's one now. :twofinger

You short guys have hundreds of choices that fit you. I like having a bike that actually has a bit of legroom. There aren't many in that category.
