Due to mega extreme lean angles at r5, and not knowing my toe slider fell off, I have nearly ruined my alpinestar race boots. Are there any cheap but ok race boots out there for under $200? I have enough meat on the boot for one more round but I thought I'd start looking now. Didn't see much on the web, maybe one of the race vendors has some old stock they can't get rid of?

Do a little EBay surfing. I did a quick search for SIDI Boots (my brand of choice) and found a ton of cheap pairs. What size do you wear?

Alpinestar will resole and replace sliders INCREDIBLY cheaply

310-891-0222 and ask for boot repair.

They did mine for some ridiculous price like $40

Boot repair?!? I didn't even think of that, even though I'm old enough to remember when there was a cobbler at Southland mall.

They take 2-3 weeks but completely resole, replace sliders and repair rips and tears. When the frkkn boots cost $350 it's worth it

5 minute epoxy

I wore through my toe sliders at the first race at Buttonwillow, and easily created new thicker ones with some tape and a tube of 5 minute epoxy. Just tape around the area you want to have a toe slider, make a rim with the tape and then fill it with epoxy.

Once it hardened I hit it with a belt sander to smoothen it out and shape it, and then squirted a little black paint on it. It looked like brand new, took me 10 minutes, and I can refill it the same way after each race.

This week, I'm going to do the same but I'm going to strategically use Ball Bearings in the epoxy to get it to wear longer :)

+1 for sending them back to A*. I did this earlier this year and the boots came back in near perfect shape. The boots were already broken in 'cause they were mine to begin with. AND, I saved $250-$275 because I didn't buy brand new ones.

That's a good way to get blackflagged and the afm rulebook prohibits sparking sliders. Steel WILL leave a trail of sparks.

you might want to look at your style. I know fast racers who never touch their toe sliders. When I started I wore them out daily. Now I almost never touch the asphalt with them.

move your feet back a bit on your foot pegs, OP, that might help. or maybe check where your foot pegs are positioned. if they are adjustable, might want to bring them back and up just a tad.

steel sparks, and if seen on track by a cornerworker, you may be blackflagged, and fined by barb. :dunno

Called the number last night, and guy told me it would probably cost about 30 bucks to fix my boot. He said at worst it would be 50. Awesome. I'm sending them out today.

Thanks for the info!!:thumbup

The epoxy thing sounds creative but I think leaving ball bearing around the track is a bad idea.....I know that loose fasteners have been picked up and throw through helmets by sticky race tires......

cool man. :thumbup

I'm glad to find this info too. I have an entire side of one of my A*s' velcro doesn't stick anymore, and the sole has a hole in one boot. :teeth

What Ernie said. If you're wearing through toe sliders and boots on the regular, something is wrong in terms of foot positioning, body positioning and/or rearset positioning. If you have fixed rearsets, which most racers do, you're also extremely close to lofting up your rear wheel and calling it a day.

Ball bearings in a slider?! :wtf I hope you were joking. You don't see them coming out of the epoxy with wear and becoming a hazard for those around you? Besides of course the sparkies being illegal. What next? Are you going to shoot banana peels out of your tailpiece? You know, to keep them honest shooting up the inside on the brakes.

Sidis have metal of some sort in the toe sliders, is that not allowed?

Anything that leaves a trail of sparks is not allowed, period. Fires have been started by spark trails. And they distract the rider behind. Use your own judgment. Do you think a trail of sparks is a good idea?
