So after an entire year of riding I decided to do a major ride to congratulate myself.

Here's the route I had planned out when I left.

Made it about 70 miles to Lodi before stopping for a break and a quick Bike Wash
DSC_9800.jpg

Wished I had stopped in Angel's Camp and taken a picture of the sign atleast, or the fairgrounds, home of the Frog Jumping competition!

But I didn't.

I did Stop again at sunset on New Melones bridge. Nice lake, really tall bridge, wouldn't want to jump off of it.
DSC_9803.jpg

DSC_9804.jpg

Got a room at the Royal Carriage, #1 hotel by tripadvisor and AAA... 80 bux for my own cottage.
DSC_9811.jpg

DSC_9822.jpg

Went to the local hotspot and watched the end of the World Series, also the oldest bar in town.
DSC_9813.jpg

Forgot my cash so they put me to work :twofinger
DSC_9814.jpg

But I got a steak out of it... :rofl

Can't wait for day two.

Getting up bright and early and heading out. Stopping for breakfast before Yosemite, spending the day, then back out the other side and up to Lake Tahoe

10/23
Day 2

After signing off from day 2 I didn't expect Day 2 to start so early. But at midnight I had my door swing open and a very large arab couple walk through my door.

We both were shocked... more shocking was that the front desk then checked them into the room next door.... also occupied.

Anyways, got back to sleep, woke up at 545 and got set for another day.
Leaving my hotel...
DSC_9824.jpg

Stopped in Groveland at a place recommended by the bartender the night before.
DSC_9826.jpg

Though the location was kinda iffy... right across from the Jail
DSC_9827.jpg

The owner explained how they had to move due to cost of rent. Before they were right on the main drag and had all sorts of people come through. She had a collection of "First dollars" from around the world. Really neat.
DSC_9829.jpg

And they had all these pictures of goats framed... not sure why.
DSC_9835.jpg

Stopped before the park real quick at a vista point, really nice spot and scored a camera case someone had left.
DSC_9840.jpg

DSC_9839.jpg

Then I made it to the park.. 8am... Gate was manned and 10 dollars was collected.
DSC_9842.jpg

DSC_9844.jpg

I spy with my lil eye, something amazing.
DSC_9846.jpg

I accepted the challenge, no bears were hurt
DSC07207.jpg

Lots of signs of fire damage, I know it's part of the process but makes me wonder what it had been like before.

Getting pissed on by Yosemite Falls.

DSC_9900.jpg

DSC_9901.jpg

DSC_9902.jpg

Stopped at the chapel to walk around.
DSC_9906.jpg

I could definitely feel god's presence looking out these windows.
DSC_9912.jpg

DSC_9918.jpg

DSC_9905.jpg

DSC_9920.jpg

Was really bummed the Sierra club was closed... I wanted to go in there badly.

Did I mention I love tunnels?
DSC_9929.jpg

Finally started seeing snow above 8000 feet... Nothing major but I finally found some to take a pic of as well.
DSC_9931.jpg

Tuolomme meadows just didn't do it for me... It's a meadow, what the hell are all you people stopping and hanging out for?

Not sure what this building was but it needed to be photo'd... and pissed on
DSC_9938.jpg

DSC_9939.jpg

DSC_9942.jpg

Mono Lake... that's about as much energy as I gave it.
DSC07218.jpg

Stopped for gas and my bank declined my card as it was not in my usual travels. While I waited for them to clear that up, I took some pics of... whatever town that was.
DSC07220.jpg

DSC07221.jpg

DSC07222.jpg

Met some sidecar rider's going over Monitor pass... Monitor pass was awesome!

Sidecar rider's were doushbags... if you look closely you'll see why.
DSC_9944.jpg

DSC_9945.jpg

Wound up getting a room at Harvey's for the night... Eating pizza at the straw hat and loading up these pics.

Will take more pics later probably but will wait to post til I get a better connection.

Can't wait for day 3, Tahoe to Lassen/Mt Shasta!

Hey I want to ride too and take pics. Loving my new bike I want to take pics too. I guess you can see I am a little jealous. Anyway when you get back show me how you did your saddle bags. I need some too.

Have a great time. Cant wait to see more pics.

Hey Koi! So jealous seeing these pics...I wanna be there!! Glad you decided to bring the laptop! Keep the pics coming...ride safe and make sure you check in with your "mamas" so we know you are safe each day!! :)

:ride

I'd give up,why are the sidecar riders d-bags??????

Good stuff! Looking forward to your report on Lassen and Mt. Shasta!

Day 3 Complete!

Not as stunning a day as Yosemite... but how could it be. I finally came to this realization as I was depressingly eating a burrito, and enjoying a margarita and a beer. I went back to my little woodsman shack and Looked through my pictures and absolutely loved my day.

So after I posted here, I went and walked the town of "Stateline". Before I got there I stopped and tried my luck at the craps table... 30 bux up, 5 beers, 2 hours killed. :party

I wound up taking some good pics, though I forgot completely to take any of the actual state line. Fail

Pony Express Rider
DSC07227.jpg

Not a Pony nor very express
DSC07229.jpg

A Mission From Gawd
DSC07231.jpg

And best of all... a phone next to my crapper! :jaded
DSC07233.jpg

After that... What happens in Cabo stays in Tahoe! :x

Got up in the morning bright and early... Damn myself for setting my wake up call before I went out...

Despite what the concierge said, there are breakfast places in Tahoe that are open at 630 am, and are not Denny's/Ihop/Buffet starting at 8am.
DSC07237.jpg

And it's even got a Fear and Loathing Del toro as a cook
DSC07236.jpg

Sunrise over the Lake... Big thanks to those that recommended the west side of the lake early... it was an amazing road with no traffic, and only 3 cops going the other direction.
DSC_9954.jpg

DSC_9957.jpg

DSC_9958.jpg

The shore's of Tahoe were warm... to my surprise. But as soon as I turned on 89 towards Truckee the temperature dropped...

My first stop for more layers of gear...
DSC_9961.jpg

My second stop for more gear!
DSC_9967.jpg

I actually turned around too so I could take a picture of this dog... I noticed it just walking around the sheep but as soon as my camera came out it decided to lay down.

DSC_9963.jpg

From this point, it was pretty much straight, boring, pine tree filled roads. Went through Quincy... but didn't stop much, too damn cold! My Alpinestar gloves aren't made for cold weather as much as my cheap Bilt Cyclegear find's were evidently cause I made the switch and I could feel my fingers again. I actually was reaching inside my engine area to keep my hands warm at points.

DSC07238.jpg

Stopped in GraEagle... a place a friend of mine and I went for a Fourth of July show a few years back. Was much different without the mass of humanity that I remembered.
DSC_9970.jpg

Stopped next at Lake Almanor... Snuck into a PG&E depot for a nice lil beach spot. Cold.
DSC_9973.jpg

Could see Mt Lassen off in the distance, and it was sunny there, so I got back on the road.
DSC_9975.jpg

Made it to the park about noon... Heard a rumble in the distance... thought at first, OMG it's erupting!

Waiiiitttt

Harleys!

Then I realized it was the first bike's I've seen all day... and were the only one's I saw all day.

Day 3 Cont

So where was I?
DSC_9976.jpg

O Right, Lassen

Loved having the ability to pull up to primo spots and take pics.... Perk of the bike right?

The Sulfer Pit
DSC_9981.jpg

DSC_9980.jpg

I laughed at the various signs pointing to the mountain and lake's... then I said, that's kinda handy actually, why didn't they have that in Yosemite?
DSC_9984.jpg

Up to this point, From Indian Valley to Lassen has been some of the best roads for twisties... Yosemite is better, smoother, and prettier, but Lassen is just as fun, and it had a better place to prove my point.
DSC_9987.jpg

I love this lake, not as much snow as some of the times I've been through.
DSC_9989.jpg

DSC_9991.jpg

I didn't realize how little snow until I got to the summit.

I hiked to the top of Mt Lassen as a kid. I remember being in this parking lot and throwing a frisbee, bouncing it off the side's of carved walls of snow around the parking lot. It actually was so cold the frisbee broke into multiple pieces after awhile.

This was the bank of snow when I pulled into the parking lot.

DSC_9993.jpg

The Devastated Area
DSC_9994.jpg

Stopped at Hot Rock to take some gear off as I thought the temp was coming up...
DSC_9996.jpg

DSC_9995.jpg

Funny to see the view in the picture on the sign and then looking the same direction now.
DSC_9997.jpg

Went out the other side of Lassen and north, boring, straight, pine trees.
DSC07244.jpg

Winner of the largest contest... damn loggers.
DSC07242.jpg

Stopped at Burney Falls and was immediately investigated by a very grey squirrel who looked like this was a lifestyle, investigating every new arrival.
DSC_9998.jpg

DSC_0003.jpg

Finally, with a remote, a tripod, and some effort, got a good time lapse of a waterfall...
DSC_0012.jpg

Had to sign out "Take your picture you take mine" to some stupid azns...

DSC_0022.jpg

Back on the road... even more boring, even straighter, and yes, more pine trees then before!

But finally. Reached the end of 89... can check that entire highway off the list of highway's I need to ride!
DSC07245.jpg

Day 3 Cont....

Pulled into Mt Shasta and stopped at the visitor center. My requirements for a hotel... Wifi... Hot Tub. The poor lady called every hotel in the area.... not one had their hot tub still working.

Soooo I chose based on location.... this one was located across the street from a Mexican food place!
DSC_00311.jpg

Had to keep checking to get a picture of Mt Shasta without clouds... here's as close as I got before hunger took over

Burrito, Beer, Margarita, World Series/MNF

Now back to the hotel for a shower, some more MNF, and some map reading for tomorrow... REDWOODS HERE I COME!

Day 4 Report

Woke up bright and early as usual, though I had forced myself to stay in bed until 7am, it was still kinda dark when I got up. But I figured by the time I loaded up and ate breakfast, it'd be sunny.

As I packed up I noticed I really had got the perfect room.
DSC_0032.jpg

Not a cloud in the sky, so got some good pics of Mt Shasta too.
DSC_0036.jpg

The Original Black Bear Diner... always fun to go to original anythings...
DSC_0035.jpg

DSC07247.jpg

Stopped in Weed just because....
DSC_0039.jpg

DSC_0040.jpg

The manager of Black Bear recommended I went over Stewart Springs Road instead of Gazelle-Callahan road... great recommendation. Stopped and snapped some pics of sunrise over shasta.
DSC_0044.jpg

DSC_0046.jpg

DSC_0048.jpg

When I first parked this was the meadow behind me.
DSC_0045.jpg

When I left it was more like this.
DSC_0049.jpg

Stewart Springs road was one of the coolest roads I had ridden. Pine forest, 1.5 lane road, valley floors, twisties, alot of fun.
DSC07248.jpg

DSC07250.jpg

And I had all day to do it! :ride
DSC_0051.jpg

CLANK

:wtf

That wasn't a good sound... oh look, I have no power. Well that isn't good either.

DSC_0052.jpg

DSC_0053.jpg

Luckily I had brought a tool kit....... except it didn't have the right tool!

:rant

Oh wait, I had brought another tool kit from Cyclegear... it's strapped to my bike with a ziptie! Shit, my tool kit doesn't have anything to cut the zip tie, That's why I brought a knife! Shit, where is that knife?

DSC07252.jpg

Finally got the knife, the tool kit, and the right tool! Thank you 3 dollar tool kit from Cyclegear! Screw you 40 dollar tool kit from MotorcycleGear

Day 4 CONT....

Anyways

DSC07253.jpg

Yeah, my day is done. Hoped that it was just a possible pull the chain out, new master link and back on the road... maybe a all new chain....

Luckily I had broke down less then a quarter mile from a construction site, otherwise it had been a hike out of BFE! Before I had even decided to walk towards them they were coming to check me out.

DSC07255.jpg

One of them gave me a ride to the local "phone booth", a reception area where cell phone's worked.. Called AAA and went back to the bike and waited. Luckily still had charge on my laptop so I watched the first half of Hangover 2

DSC_0054.jpg

Decided that I could be taking advantage of the area for some photo's and went for a hike.... Got a few.
DSC_0058.jpg

DSC_0057.jpg

BEEP!

Oh shit, tow truck!
DSC_0060.jpg

Ran back up and got loaded up, heading towards the closest Yamaha dealer in Redding, 93 miles away. (((100 dollar hook up and 7 dollars a mile, 750 dollar tow, thank you AAA)))

DSC_0061.jpg

Saw the rest of the sites from the passenger seat of the tow truck :(
DSC_0063.jpg

DSC_0069.jpg

DSC_0071.jpg

DSC_0072.jpg

Finally pulled into RYS and waited for the service guys to appear.
DSC_0073.jpg

Was told that the shift shaft is bent, could just be fixed, or it could have cracked the case. Either way parts won't be here for 6-10 days......

Well shit, that doesn't work for me.

So I call back to AAA, the conversation went something like this.

"I need to get towed home"

"We're sorry sir, we can't tow for the same problem in the same day"
:wtf
"so if I were to have a different problem you would tow it, or if a different day?"

"yes sir"

"Well it's not the same problem, I came in with a broken chain, now I have a flat tire!"

:rofl

didn't even have to flatten my tire for the next tow truck, he just laughed and said "fucking AAA"

While I was waiting this guy getting his Honda worked on had to run for parts and I convinced him to get me something to drink. He first started to preach about drinking and driving, then I showed him my problem and he said...

"Be back in less then 5 son..."
DSC_0075.jpg

DSC_0076.jpg

So first company calls me and says that they can't tow me to Napa tonight due to short manpower. Asked if they could leave my bike in their lot overnight and tow me in the morning....

Sure, why not. Cheap hotel and a good bar... whatever.

DSC_0077.jpg

Tow driver shows up and ask
"So where we taken ya?"

"Umm, your yard, and then a hotel."

He calls in and the radio dispatch comes back with
"Negative, take him to Williams and he's going to get a piggy back to Napa"

Well damn, first I had heard of this!

Sure enough, 100 miles to Williams, and then another 95 to Napa and I was home!
(((Two 100 dollar hook ups, 195+ miles at 7 bucks a mile, 1500 dollar tow, thank you AAA)))

Kinda unnerving to see you tow truck drive off with the "promise" that the next one is on it's way....

Koi you always have chain problems. It looks as if you lost your master link. This might be a good reason to have a riveted one. Anyway Glad you are home safe. What will you do with your bike. Any plans.
