First day, left San Francisco at 5am. Weather reports indicate that snow is expected in the Sierras. 2-4 inches at 6,000ft. Great! So much for summer like conditions.

I made it to the top of Tioga Pass, Yosemite. It got down to 22 degrees. I was hoping that it would stay above 32. But then I lost hope fast. By the time it dipped below 30 my gloves no longer helped with warmth. But I was dry!

Results? I stopped for a cup of coffee at the summit, 9943ft! Came back to the bike and the front brakes were frozen. I couldnt move the bike.

Once I reached the other side of Tioga Pass and then eastward a few miles things actually cleared up. I was thinking that all of the suffering in the snow and cold was going to be worth the exceptional riding in the warm desert sun. This was going to be awesome!

But then...

As I get closer to the CA / NV border the weather starts to turn again. I see in the distance that the clouds are looking pretty ugly. Hanging really low and dark. The outside temperature gauge on my bike is showing lower readings. About 36* degrees. Then it keeps dropping.

I had already put away all of my rain gear. And I was too tired to stop for some silly desert shower. Hawthorne is just up ahead. Im just going to haul ass!

A recent episode of Myth Busters tested the theory about speed and rain. Do you get wetter or less wet when you increase your speed in a given wet enviroment. Well, your suppose to get wetter. I didnt give a shit. I wanted to get to my motel. With that thought, I HAUL ASS!!!

Btw... my tires were amazing! I highly recommend the Dunlop D616 Supersport Rains. They kept me up in the rain and sleet and somehow managed to keep the black ice a little less ominous.

The snow started getting heavy as I entered NV. But I was not going to stop. After about 30 minutes of inclement weather I was out! I was deeper into the NV desert and finally in Hawthorne.

The skies were cloudy in Hawthorne and the ground wet. Did a quick check with my Android and saw that it was suppose to be clear tomorrow. Nice!

I checked into the motel at around 4pm. Took a nap and then went searching for food. Because this is a small casino and corporation town there isn't much going on at all. It was nice. What I was looking for. It wasn't a peaceful retreat but a break from The City. People are nicer. Much more simple. And there are a lot of pick-up trucks.

I went to a local pizza place. Spent some money and tipped heavily. Walked out to the cold desert air and strolled.

Leaving Hawthorne NV. The skies look promising but the forecast says rain. I don't believe it and I am wrong. I did some off road exploring while the weather was nice but I could see the thunder clouds coming closer and I could feel the humidity in the air. I needed to get back on asphalt.

Great to meet you yesterday, hard to believe that is the same bike in the pictures, as it looks spotless now.

Now you have me looking for one of those...
