By now I'm sure the vast majority of friends and riders alike have heard about the tragic loss to our motorcycle community as Gary Jaehne has passed away from a motorcycle-related accident on Saturday, May 19th, 2012.

Regardless of the cause of the crash, the cause of the death was from internal injuries sustained from the ~70ft drop that ensued and the exceedingly long amount of time that elapsed in the process of bringing Gary back up to ground level.

At the end of the day, we can not change the events of the past, but we can live on in his spirit in our future. I know that on a personal level, I will be making an extra effort to help those who I feel I am qualified to help.

Unfortunately, he has left his wife (Jill) with a number of unexpected bills between the (uninsured) life flight between Loma Mar and Stanford, the rest of the mortgage on the house, and everything inbetween.

There have been many voices asking how to help, and if you can afford to help financially, it would definitely be appreciated.
If you feel that you have benefited from Gary in some way or another and would like to give back, now is the time.

Feel free to use the donate button on the top or bottom of the page, you don't even need a Paypal account! A Debit/Credit card will suffice.

If you are leery of the donate button feel free to do it the old fashioned way by sending a Gift through Paypal to GaryJ.Appreciation@gmail.com

If you do not have or trust Paypal and would like to give her something non-monetary or mail her a package or a check, shoot me a message and I can forward her address to you.

Lastly, if you would like to visit her in person (in Scotts Valley), she has taken the following two weeks off and is willing to open her home to any and all who wish to stop by to get some closure.
If you have stories and memories to share, she would definitely like to hear them from you.
I'm not comfortable posting her address publicly, but send me a message with when you plan on paying her a visit and I'll respond with her address and notify her so she will be expecting you.

One more thing: There is a celebration of Gary's life being planned along the coastline on Sunday, June 10th at noon.

The location is still being finalized at this moment in time.

Please mark your calendars if you are planning on attending.

A new thread will be created when more information is known.

Just out of curiosity, is this paypal account sanctioned by the family? My wife and I are ready to drop a few hundred bucks, but we want to make sure it goes to the right person and quickly! Thanks!

Damn no helicopter insurance I'll donate cause that bill is huge

I was thinking the same thing. I'm in to donate. Just a quick question . Was Gary the main source of income for him and the wife? Just asking so we can double our donations .$

I already owed Gary so much from all the moto knowledge and wisdom he imparted on me. Even his passing to new roads has caused me to analyze life and learn new lessons, as was his way:
I am going to get SPOT.
I am going to make sure that my insurance continues to cover heli flights, or get the $25 coverage added.
I am going to try to get a life insurance policy to cover my mortgage.
I am going to smile more and not get mad when it rains.
It's stuff I keep putting off thinking that I have forever, but this loss has truly taught me that we can be here one minute gone the next.
If this is what Jill wants and needs, lets get it to her.:thumbup

Donation sent..

I miss him :-(

Not sure if you remember, but there was a problem in the past where the third party was holding the funds and not releasing to the wife of the person whom money was collected for.

Great question. I spoke with Jill about it yesterday night (during a 4 hour visit with her), and she knows of my plans to create it in her name. I am going to pay her a visit after class today to teach her how to use it and connect it with her bank account (as well as get her to change the password and security questions too :nerd).

I hope there has yet to be anything to tarnish my reputation.

No, Gary was not the sole source of income. Jill works as a paramedic working the night/graveyard shift. If you need an EMT in one of those blue ambulances with yellow stripes at odd hours of the night, there's a good chance you might meet her, although hopefully that will never happen. :angel.

About the helicopter ride ... I don't understand why Jill would be on the hook for that.

No, your reputation speaks for itself.

Will make donation! Thanks for everything you're doing brother.:thumbup

Thanks for setting this up! I owe Gary a lot more than I can give, but I'll give what I can

Done!! Donated and sent a lovely message to Gary and Jill

Gary was life flighted out. I'm not sure the billing department cares if Gary's alive or dead, the bill will have to be paid :dunno

I'm not sure of Gary's reason for not having heli coverage, but it just didn't seem to work out in this instance :(

Let this be a solemn reminder to all that it is worth it to have more coverage than less. I was speaking to her neighbor (also a paramedic) about how I thought I was covered for bird flights through my health insurance, but he said that if the paramedics on-scene write it as a "discretionary" flight rather than a "medical emergency", then Kaiser would have grounds to deny footing the bill. My next personal purchase once things settle down will be for helicopter coverage so I really don't have to worry. :2cents

And I'm sure if it's between making a donation or getting yourself covered, Jill would rather you opt in for coverage.
Great thread on helicopter insurance here: http://bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=119332
