Motorcycling is healing - I knew it!

Good psychology too!

I've noticed a lot of mental health interventions heading towards using mindfulness-based methods, basically training the mind to focus solely on the present situation and not be distracted by extraneous considerations - what's on the shopping list, who pissed you off a month ago, etc. This is not just good for improving mental awareness in those moments, but good practice for being able to pull this skill out when life seems overwhelming and we have to focus on what's right in front of us.

It seems to me few activities, other than motorcycling or meditation, are so good for practicing mindfulness. Zen and the motorcycle riding!

Happy riding for your health.

Totally agree. When I leave work in my car, I keep thinking about work problems when I drone along. When I leave on my bike, thinking about work usually does not last long since I catch myself making mistakes when riding.

Motorcycling has helped my ADHD tremendously. It has allowed me to reinforce what's important to concentrate on and since then I've been paying much more attention in class.

Not to mention, how the hell can you be sad riding a motorcycle?

Silly article is silly. I like it.

Speaking about motorcycling and mindfulness, here's another thread from ADVrider with some great discussion of that very subject:

Motorcycles have been the greatest mindfulness teachers I've known--pain and pleasure, simplicity and complexity, warm and cool, fear and trust--all there at the turn of the throttle. I have noticed, though, that as I incorporate the functions of motorcycling and can ride more easily/automatically, I have to work harder to stay present. It's as if my body takes over the motions that I once had to sweat over, and my brain, errant critter, wants to wander off.

I do my damndest to stay in the moment on the bike, knowing how absolutely vital it is.

people at my work think im crazy for riding a moto but i laugh when their clumsy ass drops a bottle of olive oil. :party

When I am in the cage, All I wish for is a Missle Launcher button to get the ding dongs in front of me, when I leave work I leave work no matter what I am in or on.

Riding is Life

I've long felt I should be allowed to mount an anti-aircraft gun on top of my truck to cull the cager herd. :|

On my bike, no matter what might be going on in my personal life, everything is golden and life is great. Riding keeps me sane... riding is living.
