Rider killed on hwy 4 (1/31/13)

Anybody have info on this? I got an alert through the KTVU iPhone app saying a rider has been killed and that it was a pretty gnarly crash that has 4 backed up.

PITTSBURG, Calif. —


A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on eastbound state Highway 4 near Pittsburg Wednesday afternoon, backing up traffic for miles, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The crash, reported just west of Bailey Road at about 1:25 p.m., involved the motorcycle and a box truck, CHP Officer Kevin Bartlett said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and the coroner's office was summoned to the scene, he said.

Nearly an hour and half after the crash all but one eastbound lane was closed and traffic was backed up for several miles.

that is what the report is indicating

that a Mr.ROBERT IXX with phone number 949-637-XXXX witnessed the MC driving recklessly

Mods - you may want to remove the witnesses name and phone number from the above post :2cents

I know it's already publicly out there on the CHP report...

Who knows how much bs may or may not be involved in this. In my accident, I had the driver that pulled out in front me say I was speeding and riding recklessly. What was interesting was that he told the cop he never saw me which contradicts his statement. Cop saw through it and tickets him.

Hell, this guy could have just been splitting lanes and Mr. Ivy didn't like that.
Either way, it sucks.

I was approaching there just after the accident happened. I didn't witness it but I did see the bike, it was on the over pass of San Marco Rd on lane 3 east bound, next to the slow lane. I only saw the back half the bike left on the hwy. Several cars where stopped on the shoulder and a few guys where walking down the shoulder of the hwy, between hwy and on ramp, looking in the bushes for something. The box truck was also on the shoulder several yards ahead.

They were probably looking for the rider, who was with the truck:
An early CHP investigation indicated that the motorcycle driver was moving at a fast speed when he tried to move from the No. 2 lane to the No. 4 lane, only to collide with the back of the truck, Franzen said. Police did not identify the man, pending notification of his family.

The truck driver, who was working for Bateman Senior Meals, a meal delivery service, was not injured but was badly shaken, Franzen said. The motorcycle driver appeared to throw up his hands right before impact and became impaled in the back of the truck, Franzen said.
