Hey Barfers,

In less than a month Krongsak and I are going to ride down to the Southern tip of Argentina. :teeth

We've both been dreaming of traveling the world on two wheels for many years and we've finally decided to quit our jobs, put all our belongings in storage and just do it. We'll be making the trip on a pair of DR650s. We've been planning for months: working on the bikes, packing up the apartment, figuring out the route and now we are *almost* ready to go.

We'll be posting updates here on Barf, but please feel free to follow our blog or like us on social media too. There are already a few detailed posts on the bike prep up on the blog.

I am SO DAMN excited!

Envy/greed/envy/jealous/envy... :x

Take pics & vid, and add 'things I should have packed, but found substitutes/workarounds for'. :thumbup

Bad ASS. I rode my DR650 to Prudhoe Bay and back, and I imagine a pair of em would be pretty perfect for S. America. Really looking forward to keeping up with your travels!

*subscribed* :teeth :ride

I want to know all about Ruta 40 in Argentina please.

Wow, bucket list item.
I'll be in Argentina in the middle of March, around Mendosa, I'll keep an eye out for ya!

Hell yes! That is amazing! I did a considerably shorter ride in my youth (NM to Brazil), and it was a life-changing experience. I can't wait to follow this amazing saga!!!!!! :ride

You guys have spare carb o-rings and jets, maybe a spare float bowl gasket? My DR cracked the needle seat o-ring in the Yukon...that made for some memorable fun times getting on the road again! Easy fix if you're carrying the parts, of course.

Let me dig through my spare DR parts, Nemo. If I have anything useful, I'll PM you. Which carb do you have?

Aaron, you rock. I now have a set of spare carb o-rings (stock carb on the DR650 is the Mikuni TM33, I think) and float bowl gasket that go with the bike on everything longer than an overnight!

Guys, enjoy the excitement of your prep, can't wait to read all about it.

Thanks for all the support guys.

Good tip - thanks Nemo - we'll add those. We've been collecting spares and upgrades for the bikes - most of that stuff is being tracked here.

Good luck Emm!

Thanks Rick! I only have 3 more days of work left... :thumbup:teeth:ride

We are almost down to 2 weeks to departure date! :wow

This week has been the first week where we have both been funemployed and able to focus 100% of our time on trip preparation. This has helped reduce the panicky feeling that we might not get it all done. Some of the key decisions we made this week include:

- The locator beacon we will take: ACR PLB (You can read why we chose this over the delorme or spot here)
- The health insurance I will buy for the next 12-18 months on the road - IMG Long Term Medical plan I researched this topic very thoroughly, and this plan offers coverage in the US as well as abroad, has emergency evacuation coverage and does not exclude motorcycle riders as long as the motorcycle is for transportation and you are not riding in any professional capacity. I read all 25 pages of the plan to verify all this. It ends up being roughly $1100 for 1 year with a $1000 deductible, which is the cheapest option I could find with the coverage I need. In order to be eligible for this insurance as a US citizen you have to be outside of the US for more than 6 months of the year - a requirement we will easily meet!
- Chosing a second camera to document the adventure: Sony RX-100

It always surprises me how long it takes to research these things, especially if you want to be thorough about it. :|

I think we have put in our last orders to Amazon for all the items we still need. Now we're just going to have to figure out how we fit it all into our luggage! We'll post pics next week when we attempt some trial packs... :thumbup
