Location: Sonoma County
BRIEF OVERVIEW: This bike is a former AMA race bike, and spent the 2012 season racing with me in the AFM, where it won the Clubman Lightweight Championship and placed second in the Super Dinosaur Championship thanks to support from sponsors like Bridgestone Racing, Shamboozled, Dave Moss Tuning / KFG Racing, and Bay Area Riders Forum. It is in great condition mechanically and cosmetically, extremely well set up, and literally a turn-key racer capable of winning the Clubman Championship with a good rider on board. There were no short-cuts taken with the bike, no “rigging” or whatever, just solid work for a reliable, well built trackday or race bike. The bike comes with a ton of extra’s (see below).
FULL HISTORY:
This bike started it’s life brand new as an AMA race bike. It was purchased by Aramel Racing in 1999 as their “B” bike, to campaign in the 1999 AMA (and WERA/AFM) seasons.
Aramel Racing, located in Southern California, went through the bike and set the bike up immaculately. I will list the modifications below, but suffice to say that every part of the wiring harness is intact, and silicone sealed to prevent damage or shorts, the fuel lines have quick-disconnects, the frame was straightened when it was brand new to get rid of the OEM variances, the transmission was cryogenic treated to make it “tougher” and the dog-ears were undercut to provide better shifting. The motor was left stock, short of dyno-tuning and rejetting of the carbs.
Aramel Racing ceased to run the “B” bike and sold it to a fellow BARF’er a few years ago (I’m not sure, but I think it was around 2009). The bike didn’t see any races, nor did it do many trackdays during that period of time. It was then sold to another BARF’er, who did a single trackday on it and then sold it to me.
MY HISTORY with the bike:
I purchased the bike in the AFM off-season of 2011, with plans to race it in the 2012 season. The bike had minor cosmetic damage to the bodywork, rash on the exhaust pipe and overall needed to be “gone through” before it could be raced.
I immediately took the bike to GP-Frame and Wheel to check and make sure the forks and frame were straight – and they were (and still are).
I built the bike to compete in the 2012 AFM Clubman Lightweight and 2012 AFM Superdino classes, and completed the “modifications” below to do so.
With an average rider (myself), this bike won every race it entered in Clubman Lightweight during the 2012 AFM season and took the Championship, as well as won 1st or 2nd place in every Superdino race it ran in the same season. I placed 2nd in that championship at the end of the year, losing to a Ducati 916 in the points race.
I intended on racing in 2013, but a crash during flat track training put me out of the hunt – only allowing me to race one race in 2013 and retire the bike. The bike has done a single trackday in the end of 2013 to make sure everything still worked, and has since been parked. I will not be racing in 2014, so the bike goes up on the market. It has never been down when in my possession. It has had a low-side prior to my ownership, but as I said above, is completely straight and squared away.
MODIFICATIONS
Bodywork:
This bike comes with race bodywork that is in solid shape, it has never been down on this bodywork and was painted fresh in 2012 by MotoGloss (Rob, thanks!). The stickers are all vinyl, but I won’t remove them as they’ve been on there for 2 years and I’d imagine at least some of them will take paint with it.
The wheels were powder coated by Vaiders in Rohnert Park.
All fasteners are DZUS style fasteners, and are in working order. In short, there’s no zip ties holding this bike together.
It does not come with street bodywork.
SUSPENSION
Front Forks:
OEM Honda Forks – Custom GP SUSPENSION valving, work done by KFG Racing (Barry Wressel). Both compression and rebound valves were completely rebuilt to a much better than stock specification. Springrate is for a 185lb rider.
Rear Shock:
Penkse rear “triple clicker” shock: Fully adjustable preload, compression, high speed compression, rebound. Custom valving by KFG Racing as well. Sprung for 185lb rider.
Both forks and shocks were completely built in 2012, and fully refreshed in 2013. They have less than 30 laps on the suspension as it sits.
Steering Damper: Scotts Steering Stabilizer, rebuilt in 2012 by KFG Racing.
DRIVE TRAIN / BRAKES
Engine: Stock, dyno-tuned and rejetted, otherwise stock.
Exhaust: Yoshimura slip-on.
Brakes: EBC Wave-Style front rotors (brand new, 30 laps on them).
Galfer 1300 Ceramic Pads (brand new, 30 laps on them).
Accossato Brake Master Cylinder / Lever.
OEM Honda Calipers (rebuilt 2013).
Chain / Sprockets: Brand new Vortex front/rear sprocket, DID 520 chain. Less than 30 laps on both.
Tires: Bridgestone slicks (180 rear, 120 front). The rear tire is fine for trackday pace, probably has one race weekend left in it. The front tire is brand new with almost no laps on it, less than 10 if I had to estimate.
Transmission: Ape Racing Undercut transmission (prevents jumping out of gear), Cryogenic treated transmission.
MISCELLANEOUS
Woodcraft Rearsets
GP shift patter linkage
Keyless ignition modification
Quick release fuel lines
Silicone’d OEM wiring harness connectors
HRC kill switch / grips.
Modified OEM clip-ons
Custom rear seat/tail section support bracket.
Lightweight Clutch
HRC quick-turn throttle.
AFM legal safety wiring, RTV on all seals, etc.
Valves inspected in 2013, within spec.
Brand new battery.
EXTRA PARTS
This bike comes with a ton of extra’s, as you can see in the pictures. I won’t list every single one of them but here’s the general idea:
Spare gas tank w/ lock and key
Spare rear tail section
Extra Front Wheel
Set of “takeoff” tires if you want them. If not, I’ll dispose of them, they’re good for trackdays but not good to race on. I have others, but these two are the "good" ones.
Clip-ons (numerous sets).
Set of Tire Warmers
OEM handlebar controls
OEM rearsets
OEM footpegs
OEM Honda Manual
OEM valve cover gasket
OEM brake master cylinder (front)
OEM brake master cylinder (rear)
Two brand new Vortex Rear Sprockets
One brand new Vortex Front Sprocket
Trackside front and rear stand
There are more misc. parts like mounting brackets, dash brackets, bettery brackets, etc, etc, but the above listed items are the ones worth listing.
Feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions. I know the posting is long, but I didn’t want to just say “here’s an F4, please buy it.” This bike has more history than that, is a proven race winner and is capable of winning again – or just being a solid trackday bike.
All this bike needs is a rider, and for Dave Moss to turn the clickers to settings YOU prefer (they are where I prefer them right now).
