I'm planing a 2 days ride from the EastBay to Mendocino National Park and back with camping one night. This is the route (this one starts at Napa, I'm going to actually start at Hayward): https://db.tt/E2zTneuA

The whole ride is going to be around 300 - 350 paved miles, and around 80 - 120 miles fairly easy unpaved
(I am going to be riding my 2014 R1200GS Adventure with 80/20 tires)

Any one like to join me for this ride?

Yes I know about the Stonyford ride, my starting point is a little north of Stonyford going south/west, I may cross their route at one point.

The map is loading fine for me, you may have a slow internet connection and the map time-out loading the 2,000 track-points.

Hey leesagi,

Your map worked for me ... In years past I've camped with the
Funduro guys in Deer Valley on a Sheetiron weekend and it was fine ...

It's 500 bikes, but they are heading through to Ft Bragg pretty
quickly on Saturday morning ... we just avoid M10 Saturday morning ...
Soda Creek will be a zoo lunchtime Saturday and Nice a zoo on lunch Sunday ...

If you are doing your loop counter-clockwise and heading through
Stonyford around 9am or later on Saturday, you'll miss most of the
riders as they head west while you head north to Elk Creek, Road 308, M3 and M6 ...

I'll be up there this weekend, starting Thursday night through maybe Sunday,
thinking of camping at the Rodeo Grounds in Stonyford ... for sure on Friday ...
lots of fun Friday night, and usually
a ton of BARF guys to say hello to ... :thumbup

Where are you planning to camp on Saturday?

Otherwise, I'll keep an eye out for you on the roads this weekend! :ride

see you around the campfire,

I was actually planing on doing this route clockwise, I'm sure I'll see some of the bikes, but it would not bother me, and if they do bother me...I carry a big knife :)

I was thinking of camping at Lake Pillsbury, but depends how things go, I may just stop somewhere along the way (there are a few campsites along my route)

Haha ... I heard the "big knife" was a luxury factory option
on the 2014 R1200GS Adventure! :laughing

Lots of camping options up there, and great riding, as you know ...:thumbup

Not sure, with the heat today, where I'll be on Saturday afternoon, but if I'm near Lake Pillsbury I'll swing through the campgrounds and try to say hi ... :party

have a good ride,

Sounds good, I'm assuming that you'll be on your KLR?

And actually this will be my first time riding up there, I'm pretty new to adventure riding (practically since I got the GSA 3 months ago). The last time I rode in somewhat in that area was a day ride back in 2006 with my KLR (which I only used twice off-road, once that, and once a 10 day trip in the grand canyon back in 2010).

Yes, I'll be on a green first-gen KLR ... (I'll be the guy that rides up to the new '14 GSA and asks if you're Lee ...:laughing)

Your route (M1 to M6 to M3 to Road 308 to Elk Creek) is pretty straight-forward compared to the section of Rayhouse/Reiff Road it looks like you did a few months ago ... all nicely maintained fire roads as of two weeks ago ... dry ... easier than Rayhouse (less steep and no huge ruts) ... lots of fun, and very pretty ... :thumbup

You'll make a hard right at the four way intersection labeled Low Gap ... guess you have a GPS so you won't have any trouble ...

Like to hear about your Grand Canyon trip, never been on a bike ...

Should be a great weekend ... hope our paths cross! :ride

Yes I have been on Reiff a few months ago, if I remember correctly, it was the first (maybe 2nd) time I took the GSA off pavement. I started from RT 16 end but turned around when the gate was closed about 10 miles in. This weekend I may skip Reiff in the interest of time, depends on how early I get on the road.

The grand canyon ride was epic (at least for me), spending a couple of nights at Bar 10, literally riding on the edge of the canyon walls for a bit, and Utah...man, Utah is an adventure rider dream, than staying a couple of nights in Sedona AZ riding some of the off-roads there...what a trip (http://www.bikerplaza.com/ride_grand_canyon_dual_sport.html)

What year is your KLR? I still have my 2005, only about 7k miles, with military 7 gallon tank, bed-liner black paint job, and few other small modifications (must be over a year since the last time I took it out of the garage).

Very cool Grand Canyon trip, thanks for the link! :thumbup

I'll be on my wife's '02 ... haz mo' bttr tyrs, ha! :teeth I ride an '01 ... usually.

I'm out the door ... will look for you at Lake Pillsbury on Sat afternoon, if I don't see you at least I can jump in the water ... the lake is full ... :party
have a great ride! :ride

Totally awesome!

Your bike looks killer.

John, it was great meeting you in person at Lake Pillsbury yesterday (Sat), hope you had a good ride back to Stonyford.

Our BARF Adventure Riding meet-up worked out perfectly ... love when
that happens! :party

Thanks for posting pics, you got a killer campsite! :thumbup

Looking forward to your video, and hope to
see you soon,

maybe a dumb question, but why would you have 2,000 track points instead of turn by turn? Is it a gps thing I wouldn't understand?

When you save a track with a GPS unit (or iPhone in my case), it saves a point every few seconds. This is very different (in terms of the number of points) from a GPS route which is several key points on the map that allow the GPS software to connect them and create a route...you probably knew this part. I posted a track so the route will be the same no matter what GPS or map software a person uses, vs. posting a route and let each mapping software route it a little different (potentially)
