The race was fricking epic.
Lenny Hale who was just 5 points behind and on the pole grabbed the lead ahead of Devin McDounough ( sorry if I misspelled that) who was gridded second on his very first big bike race. Siggy was third ahead of Jake Lewis and Ricky Corey. Siggy immediately grabbed the lead, but Hale railed around the outside of T2 and grabbed the lead with Devin also trusting his tires on the first lap to grab second. Holy shit!!
The top 5 pulled away from the field and the top 3 gathered a few bike lengths over Lewis and Corey. Hale started to pull a gap on Devin and Chris and they were all clicking off 1:49's.
Siggy managed to get past the fast young man from Portland and started to close the gap. His BMW was ripping and he was bringing Devin with him. Soon a good battle was on. Siggy by going into one, but Hale took it back on the exit.
Repeat again on the next lap and again on the next except Siggy slid back in front of Hale going into T2. Corey had gotten by Lewis and was able to close in on he battle ahead thanks to the pass / repass show. Siggy held the point, but Hale rallied to take the lead again. Devin got by Siggy to push Chris to third and out of the championship. Devin then stole the lead with a pass on the front straight. It was awesome watching the four front men nose to tail and in true flying formation on the straight.
With two laps to go the pressure was on and the young man held the point. Corey was pressuring Siggy who was all over Hale. Good stuff! Hale ran a bit wide in three and Siggy swooped by. Hale stole it back and on the last lap it got frantic. Hale went wide in three again and Siggy swooped by ... Well I thought he did. Hale stuffed it back in going into T4 causing Siggy to make a fast adjustment not to hit Lenny. A huge wow came from the crowd.
Hale then spun the rear and Siggy ran up into the Cyclone with what looked like the lead, but Hale stuffed him again killing his drive and allowing Corey to take advantage. That put Siggy in 4th and Hale on the point in the Championship. Siggy had almost hit Hale again and this was getting me stressed.
Siggy had to be pissed!! Devin had about 3-4 bike lengths on Hale, with Corey and Siglin right on him. It stayed that way and it would come down to the last run to the flag.
Devin held on for the win, Hale was second and Siggy drafted by Corey between the flag stand and the finish line taking 3rd by about 18". I was watching from the tower and man. That was close !!
The third place gave Chris the Championship by one point. Amazing performance by the young man and by Siggy to do what he needed to.
Way to go Chris!!!
