BARFistan 2015

Hey Barfers, hope everyone’s doing great on here! Hopefully those of you who were following "BARFistan 2013 and 2014" recognized that it was a great opportunity to eliminate some of the misconceptions most have about the east. The project was not solely focused on Pakistan though, or even motorcycles as a matter of fact. It was mostly about adventure, getting out of the safety cocoon and familiarity of a 9 to 5 lifestyle and braving a land that you’ve seen portrayed as a warzone. I’ve become such a travel junkie and want to create more opportunities for you all to step outside of the hamster wheel, explore the hidden beauty of Pakistani’s many cultures, and have a life-changing experience (without breaking the bank and while having the best tour-guide you’ll ever have, me! {tho some might not agree, haha}). With 2015 just around the corner and BARFistan 2013 and 2014 being wildly successful, I’d like to host barfers again next year.

I'm planning to tour the Americas and beyond starting early 2016, ending when I can't ride anymore or I run out of money, whichever comes first :p So 2015 will probably be the last time I do these BARF tours of Pakistan, for any foreseeable time.

The goal for 2015 is to accommodate each and everyone one of you so I’ve created the tour dates below, but if you cannot make any of these and *really* want to come, email me at ADifferentAgenda@gmail.com and I’ll do my best to work with you.

'Kashmir' will be another addition to 2015 plus a hard core winter expedition – more details on those tours later, but please post up if you’re interested in one of these.

I’ve calculated the costs to be roughly $1250 per week. (Yes! $250 more than last year)

Piaggio motorcycles have had their issues and I really want to switch over to Honda but unfortunately Honda motorcycles cannot be rented in Pakistan. So I plan on buying brand new Hondas for you guys. So the extra $250 would help pay for some of the additional cost of buying and I think the added reliability of having a Honda is well worth it.

The $1250 per week covers: Food/Meals - Motorcycle rental - Fuel for the entire journey - Motorcycle maintenance during the journey (oil changes/filters/fluids/plugs) - Support vehicle (you won't have to carry luggage on the bike with you) - Hotels (shared room) - Camping equipment - All toll and ferry charges - 2 helpers who will help you with everything from riding your motorcycle when you're tired to giving you a massage on top of the Himalayas..

Not included: - Your airfare (ranges from $1500-2000)- Visa fees (approx.. $120 for an American citizen) - Insurance costs (optional) - Bottled water (cheap!). You'll also have to pay for the parts if you crash your bike. The bike is about $1200 brand new so if you throw the bike off the mountain or total it, that’ll be the extent of your liability. Any other personal expenses you choose to incur (shopping, beer, wine, hookers, etc)

Need more convincing??? Check out these ride reports from 2013 and 2014. Better yet- come to the documentary showing of the 2014 Tour 1 trip – see your fellow Barfers in action and experience their epic journey with them! Free admission and you’ll REALLY get a chance to see what Pakistan is like.

I'm not missing this again. In for Tour 2 or Tour 4.

OK I am definitely in for one of these this time as well. Going to figure out which trip works best. :teeth

If anyone is on the fence about going to Pakistan, I would highly recommend that you do it. As mentioned, this is likely the last year that these trips are happening in the near future. This is one of those places where having a group of locals on the trip is incredibly important. Furthermore, due to his connections, Moin is able to get people into some areas that are otherwise off limits to foreigners. These trips truly are a once in a lifetime opportunity. Don't look back and kick yourself for not going.

The natural beauty of Pakistan far exceeded my expectations, in spite of seeing all of the pics from previous tours. The warmth of the people was nothing short of astounding, as well. I have been slacking, but this thread has motivated me to finish my ride report soon. I will prioritize that in the coming days.

If anyone has any questions that they are not comfortable asking in this thread, please feel free to send me a message here on BARF.

Yes! I've been waiting for this thread :ride

I went on the first tour of 2014 and can't really put into words, just how amazing the entire trip was. It was so awesome, I am going back in 2015. Not sure which tour yet, but I am definitely doing another 3 week one.

Like Aaron said, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, primarily because of Khan being the guide. His connections and knowledge are truly invaluable and while you *could* go on your own I guarantee the experience won't be anything near what it could've been.

Matter of fact- Khan is flying out for the documentary showing in January - so come on out and meet him. You'll also get a chance to meet most everyone that has gone on one of these tours. Also, feel free to pm me (ladies?!) if you have any questions you'd like to ask privately.

I'm going in 2015 - are you??

The peaks of Pasu - you must see them in person.

I'm not going to miss this. I will be there for a 3 week tour.

Great people, great country, and a great adventure. If this sort of trip sounds at all appealing to you then you will definitely love it.

interested in Tour #3, plan on attending the January showing...

It is an awesome trip. The night sky at shandur was worth it alone.
Not to mention playing cricket with local cops, or hiking at 13k+ feet and experiencing what that is like.

Also launching those bikes off every speed bump which are big enough to provide a perfect jumping platform. :teeth

So in total around 5-8k?

For 3k week tour and assuming you get unlucky with airplane tickets, or don't buy in advance, around 6k. Plus how much you want to spent there on gifts.

Awesome - come to the January showing if you can, would be great to meet you!
